Please double check Rule #5 so I do not have to go offline to see who is participating. Thank you.
For this round your prompt is the above picture, a self portrait by San Francisco born artist Madeline von Foerster entitled Metamorphosis #6.
Let this painting inspire you to find your own self portrait. You may use whatever style suits your muse.
There are a few simple rules:
1) Poems should be between 14 and 50 lines.
2) Spelling, grammar, and punctuation (if used) are very important so please proofread your poem.
3) Incomprehensibility is not a virtue and does not equal depth of thought.
4) Choose a plain color background. It is acceptable to use a border if the typing is against a single color backing. You may post this picture with your entry if you choose (please credit the artist).
5) Please place your screenname in the author's notes so that I will know you are eligible to compete in this round.
Other than that, please treat each other as adults and use common sense.
Good luck and have fun.
EDIT: I have re-opened the contest until the weekend because one of the entrants had a computer crash and was not able to submit her poem in time. I will judge the contest soon, and I appreciate your understanding.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on December 11, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100
- Final notes: In this round I was blessed with such wonderful poetic talent. I read each poem at least five times and choosing the trophy winners was a very difficult task. I could have given awards to all the entrants, but finally made a decision on the way the poem fit the prompt and my visceral reaction to the words. The eighteen finalists will be moving on to round three which has just been posted.

I want to thank the four poets who will be leaving this round, and I look forward to reading your works in the future.
Peace to all and a very happy holiday season. Liz
