NO GREENS! - A Rounds Contest

Hello Talented Poets!

You have just touched on the Second Annual NO GREENS Rounds Contest.

Last year proved to be such a success that we decided to do it again with another seven rounds of intrigue.

I am hosting this contest with Idle Mind Wondering.

If you have read either of us you know how differently we write so you can imagine how diverse this contest will be. However, it should prove to be a whole lot of fun.

NO GREENS is all about the poetry. There will be NO GREEN TROPHIES. Only Gold, Silver and Bronze will be awarded in each round. Rounds will be for big points, and along the way there may be some bonus points, but of course, there will be eliminations.

The following outlines our rounds so you know what you will be heading into. Our goal is to go seven rounds with the last round being only three poets.

Round 1 = will be a free write to a specific prompt.
Round 2 = will be written to a prompt asking for specific use of a poetic form and a specific poetic device.
Round 3 = will be image inspired asking for use of specific poetic device.
Round 4 = will be a free verse poem written to a specific prompt using a specific poetic device.
Round 5 = will be written to a provided topic using a specific poetic form and a specific poetic device.
Round 6 = will be a free verse inspired by an image and/or quote prompt.
Round 7 = will be a free write to a specific prompt.

That's pretty much the run down. The only things you don't know are what the prompts, forms, and required poetic devices will be, but that's half the fun.

Now we know what a busy time of year this is, so we will allot plenty of time for each round and we will do our very best to give good critiques on your pieces and judge each round in a timely manner. (provided we can agree)

We believe in proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. These will be required in all rounds.

If you've gotten this far, welcome aboard! We look forward to some wonderful poetry!

Ken and Pam

OK Here we go -

Round 1

Free write (meaning any style)

Quote Prompt:

"Moral indignation is jealousy with a halo."
- H. G. Wells (1866-1946)

From this pool of entries we will pick our contestants.

Put your best foot forward and show us what you've got.

THE RULES:

1. Please left align.
2. Please no sticky caps.
3. Proper spelling, punctuation and grammar are required.
5. No cutting, suicide or self mutilation.
6. No erotica. Tastefully sensual is fine permitting it fits the subject matter.
7. Be creative, find a new path, avoid cliché, and be proud of what you write.
8. HAVE FUN!

Now, be off with you and write your hearts out!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on January 20
  • Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 500, Bronze: 200
  • Final notes:

    Hello all.

First off we both thank you sincerely, for your patience and continued support of NO GREENS after having some long delays due to matters beyond our control. We do not anticipate future rounds taking so long to judge.

In this first round, judging was extremely complicated as everyone wrote so well to this interesting and difficult prompt. If you have not already read each other's work, you owe it to yourself to do so. Such diversity in form, style, and subject matter made this truly an enjoyable round. So much so, that we are moving everyone to round 2.

Many thanks to those who took the time to tweak and edit their poems to fine tune and perfect them as well. So without further ado, here are are winners:

    GOLD - Tangled Webs

SILVER - a matter of faith, for the children

BRONZE - flowers (missing the point)

    FINALIST - Alliance vs Defiance

    FINALIST - This Is Mine

    FINALIST - Sun...

Top six, please take a bow for such excellence in presentation, form, and language. Superb poetry all.

Thank you all for such a splendid round. You can find Round 2 at the following link:

Good luck to everyone as you advance to Round 2 of NO GREENS.

think in terms of hypocrisy; someone scrutinizing or denouncing what they secretly want but can't have; aesop's fable "The Fox and the Grapes" is a mild but good example.

Go with what you know; what is in you.

I enjoyed this group of contests so much, and I am looking forward to this year's edition. Your challenges are always so interesting, and it is fun to read the poems that you two write for your own prompts. Peace, Liz

Moral is bad, amoral is good?

Sorry, I can't write to this. I realize the qualifier is the word "indignation" but in our society that translates to "No one judge anyone for screwing over your neighbor." As if all truth is subjective.
No way I can believe in that or write to it.

I have entered although I'm not sure if the poem is revelant to the prompt, or if it's any good. I fret now...
