There are three songs that are very dear favorites of mine, but my favorite part of these ongs are the music videos that accompany them.
These music vidoes have inspired me in a number of my own poems, and i would like to see how they inspire you.
Option #1: Nemo - Nightwish
Music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH9ZkDqdAIU
(this includes lyrics)
Tell me about the blood that clouds her eyes, and about the ravens tied to her wrists. For reference, the word nemo comes from the Ancient Greek, meaning "no one" or "no man".
Option #2: Amaranth - Nightwish
Music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdZn7k5rZLQ
Lyrics: http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/nightwish/darkpassionplay.html#3
I do not want anything about the actual band for this, but I want to hear about the fallen angel and the peasant who tried to save her; you could even do an interesting necromancer twist if you wanted. For reference, an amaranth is a mystical flower that never dies.
Option #3: Over the Hills and Far Away - Nightwish (cover)
Music Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UztEfwHt14
Full song (some great instrumentals): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylhrQewk6lI
Lyrics: http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/nightwish/overthehillsandfaraway.html#1
I thought that this was interesting story in and of itself, so I really would appreciate focusing on the music video, and the little details of it. And es, I know this is a Gary Moore song, but I like the Nightwish cover a lot, because I think the instrumentals and Tarja's voice are incredible.
And, just when you thought I'd forgotten lol ...
The Rules
1. First and foremost, this is NOT a place for a Tarja v. Annette discussion or debate; any specific references in any of the poems, they will be removed from the contest. And yes, I can tell the difference between saying "The vocals in this song were inspiring and really good" and "Anette is better than Tarja" or "Tarja is better than Annette". I'm not stupid.
1. No erotica. No sensual. Nada. I get that you can do stuff about love for Amaranth and Over the Hills and Far Away, and, yeah, I get the dubious inferences in Over the Hills and Far Away, but we don't need details. They are not welcome in this contest, I will remove them. If you have to be over 14 to view it, it is inappropriate.
1. No cussing. It's vulgar. It is also not welcome in this contest, simply because I don't like it.
1. Let's leave religion out of this, thank you. And political views, preferences, etc. I know that there is an angel in Amaranth, but I would really rather you keep your religious preferences to yourself. Okay, I'm actually going to be a hypocrite and say that I will allow polythesitic and ancient religions, and pagan, but not to the point where it overwhelms the storyline of the poem.
1. I do like rhyme, but I like the more mature side of it; couplets are not welcome unless in the form of envelope rhyme. I adore sonnets.
1. I'm a little busy, so I'm placing the line limit at 60 lines; again, I'm not stupid, so please just make a note in your two line preview if your poem is over 60 lines because of line breaks. Also, the line minimum is set at 10 lines, because this is supposed to be story (and that is 10 lines of typing, discluding line breaks).
1. I'm allowing up to three entries per person because there are three options, hough it isn't mandatory. Because of this, please put your option number, the number poem you are entering, and credit to the artist.
1. Please place a short sentence reading "I have read the rules" in your author notes after the above.
1. I'm allowing prewrites, however, I will disqualify them if they don't conform to the rules; but I will give you a chance to edit it, as I will with every poem, unless they don't conform to rules 1-3.
1. I'm really, really not looking for funny poems. I'm looking for kind of dark poems, or poems about love. Please do not write funny poems. You won't win
1. Have Fun!!!!!
One last point: Notice each rule is labelled as rule #1. This is because there are all equally important.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on December 19, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 550, Silver: 300, Bronze: 175
- Final notes: Thanks for joinging this contest you guys; this has been a great contest. I hoping for a bigger turnout, but for the most part what I got was great. A few of you entered poems that really didn't follow the rules, and if you take the time to read the actual prompt, you would understand who you are. Sorry the judging took a while; I had bronchitis. Congratulations to those who won; you deserved it ^_^
