I tutor high school and college students who sometimes come to me with poems that they have been assigned to interpret. It is a metaphoric mystery but an amusing challenge.
YOUR challenge is to write a three-line poem that means nothing but sounds as though it might have a profound message.

In your author's notes, ask readers to interpret your poem.
Do not give them ideas or suggestions. Let the readers sift through it on their own and have fun.An example of a poem that means nothing:
wild blows fragile pages
mustard seeds sprout into mountains
all mankind hears the trump
Interpretation?
l. We are spoiling our environment.
2. Biblical predictions are coming to pass.
3. Our economy is in trouble.
4. Hollywood has produced a blockbuster movie.
Rules:

Nothing with shocking themes or language.Be creative and have fun.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on November 11, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 150, Bronze: 100
- Final notes: Thank you, everyone, for bringing your impressive poetic talent to my poetry interpretation party. I am convinced that famous published poets write poems that mean absolutely nothing and they wake up and laugh every day at the thought of English literature students having to comb through their poems to find meaning. It's fun to write poems that mean nothing. True? You all wrote splendid poems!

As the dark blue sun rises over mountaintops of cinnamon
A lone star shines amidst a vast sea of crystal solitude
Smiling at the unfathomable profoundness of this empty space -

Sorry you missed my contest but I will do another one soon.
Your poem makes a lot of sense and is beautiful. For my next contest you must try to write a poem that makes no sense:
the blue sun rose high
melting the cinnamon mountains
and filling unfathomable space with profound smiles
LOL

now, reading it in the morning, it actually does make sense... that's scary...

when I wrote it at night, this was just a random bunch of words to me....
