a little fun with characterisation

RESERVE A SPOT. I will give you a prompt concerning a character. I will not accept random entries from people who have not received a prompt from me.

You may do almost anything you’d like with the prompt and may use whatever style you deem effective and necessary, but if you don’t know anything about the time period, region, conflict, customs, or manner of speech your character might use, PLEASE do some research, if only on Wikipedia. I don’t want to sift through poems in the voice of an old man dying of the plague in seventeenth century London who says “thee art my friendeth,” “shit, dude, I’m dying,” or something equally erroneous. No short stories. This is supposed to be a fun - albeit challenging - means of writing poetry.

Basically, place me. Get your readers into the mind of this person, show us the circumstances, and show us his/her innermost thoughts and observances. Be fresh and original; create the person and give them a life beyond what I've told you. Don’t list facts you might imagine about the person’s life; if it’s relevant, find a way to incorporate it in the poem. When writing a poem about a person's life, it helps to focus on one specific event, which is why I have given you details and a specific place. All you have to do is let them speak.

Have fun!

I watched Pobol y Cym this weekend and happened to hear mention of your name and how it is untranslatable to English though it seems to be the same essence as the German "Sehnsucht" which always fascinated me... just thought you'd like to know.

    Interesting contest.

My writer's block doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon, otherwise I would. I figure I'll just let it fade away on it's own.
