BE THE DIFFERENCE

So it has been a little over one month since my last contest, and since I missed the week of October I originally wanted to do this, I figured I would do so. Now, to get things straightened out, this contest is about gays and their allies. I myself am bisexual and haven't been too pleased in seeing a lack of contests like this.

This is what I would like from you:

1. LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender/Transvestite, Questioning):
I would really just like to hear your feelings on this. Do you know anyone who is part of the LGBT community? Maybe you're an Ally.

2. National Coming Out Day (October 11):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Coming_Out_Day
I wouldn't mind a poem of maybe when you came out to your friends or when they came out to you. Maybe you're afraid to admit that you may not be entirely straight. Why do you think you're afraid?

3. Suicide:
There is a rate of one in every three LGBT person who will attempt suicide. I would just like feelings on this, as I know it can be a hard topic to talk about. Even for myself, it is a difficult task to remember my past and the trauma within it.

4. Homophobia (fear of LGBT people/same sex relationships):
This is one of the major problems a lot of LGBTQ students don't come out openly and tell others that they are gay. Harassment is a serious issue and what many people don't understand is that it does hurt. These are just my feelings on how homophobia. What are yours. If you are homophobic, why do you think that is? Do you feel threatened?

5. LGBT Celebrities:
Many celebrities have come out as one of the above. Maybe one of them is your role model, maybe you're just learning some of the names on here. Many of you known these people by name. And there are so many more out there.
Bisexual:
Angelia Jolie
Calamity Jane
Drew Barrymore
Emily Dickinson
Lord Byron
Madonna
Oscar Wilde
etc,etc,etc

Lesbian:
Melissa Etheridge
Rosie O'Donnell
Ellen DeGeneres

Gay:
Elton John
Marc Almond
George Michael
Nathan Lane
Chris Kayon

Rules and Regulations:

1. Do not, and I repeat DO NOT use any anti-LGBT slurs. You will get disqualified and possible even reported. That WILL NOT be tolerated. This is a contest to support the LGBT community, not make it feel unwelcome.

2. Keep it to under 100 lines.

3. Spelling and grammar, please try to check it.

4. While there is no actual format I want it in, I do really like rhyming. Maybe if you pick one of the poets or artists, you could write something about them in their form.

5. Keep your poem acceptable to the rules and you could be on your way to a gold.

Have fun with this.

Well... this seemed a lot less successful than I originally imagined. But I do thank those of you who did participate in this contest and took it seriously. Many thanks to the three of you. The three entries I got were absolutely amazing and different in their own and special way. Congrats to the three of you and I'm glad for once everyone in the contest could win!!
