October

This is a poem that was written and illustrated by my grandfather back in the 1920s. It is called "October" which was both his and my grandmother's birth month. I know you probably can't read it (I will post the typed-out version in the final notes.)

Submit any style poem as long as it at least mentions the word "October."

Two writes allowed per poet, but one must be a new write.

October

Crispy air and azure skies,
High above, a white cloud flies,
Bright as newly fallen snow.
Oh the joy to those who know October!

Colors bright on bush and tree.
Over the weedy swamp, we see
A veil of purple and brown and gold.
Thy beauty words have never told. October!

Scolding sparrows on the lawn,
Rabbits frisking home at dawn,
Pheasants midst the sheaves of grain,
All in harmony acclaim, October!

Brown earth freshly turned by plow,
Apples shine on bended bough,
Bins o'erflowed with oats and wheat,
And satisfaction reigns complete. October!

Radiant joy is everywhere.
Spirits in tune to the spicy air,
Thrill in the glory of each day.
Life's worth living when we say, October!

Thank you, it is from a small book that he made by hand for his parents as a Christmas gift called "From Pen and Brush", ca. 1924. My father was born in 1930, so he was still quite young. He taught landscape architecture at Cornell his whole life and was an avid outdoorsman and a very gifted illustrator. Much more of an artist than a writer.

I took a quick look but I don't believe I have a PW with the word October in it.

    Great contest.

So sorry I never got a chance to enter the fresh write! Personal issues commanded attention, and I never quite got round to it. But I love the idea of this contest, and my sincerest congratulations to the winners

Thanks for your enthusiasm & participation; the new write wasn't mandatory. Have a good November.
