Contest: Yankee Candle Titles

This is a continuation of ea’s two contests using the names of Yankee Candle scents:

http://allpoetry.com/contest/2424357

http://allpoetry.com/contest/2423539

There are still all these wonderful scent names left over to choose from…

You may write more than one poem but each scent may only be used once.

Do check what has already been entered, because I might not be around to edit

the list.

You may write in any verse form, or in free verse, or any way you like. DO make

the scent the title of your poem.

Since many of these scents are so evocative of the season, this contest is being run

as a PIF to the GOLD winner.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 9, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 300, Bronze: 200
  • Final notes:
I mark entries in my contests out of ten. In this case there was a range of 0.7 points in the whole 21 entries! But in the end I had to be brutal and knock out all but three, and that meant not giving a trophy to some fine poetry.

May I suggest you spend some time rambling through the entries, reading them, and giving away some applause. There are some poets amongst the entrants who deserve to be more widely read.

vaguelyfamiliar's "Berry Jam" simply hit all my buttons today. I am delighted to give gold to a young writer.

Cannonsfire went out there with "Sage & Citrus".

EarthToJim is quite clearly certifiable, but is holding my teddy bear hostage, so I have to give him a trophy.

To the rest of you, my sincere thanks for giving me some wonderful poetry to read. Be proud of yourselves.

To the gold-winner, if you would like to pay this one forward, go right ahead. Feel free to re-launch the contest with the remaining unused candle scents or, if you feel this has run its course, start a brand new contest.

Sorry desi - didn't see your note down there - if you want to reserve it, pop in a "reserve" entry; but please come back and finish it before the end date.

....this reminds me of the east coast....

The original Yankee Candle is about ten minutes from my parents' house. I used to drive by it every day on my way to work for many years.

I might enter this purely out of nostalgia.
    Lovely.

Thank you for hosting, Mairi and congrats to vaguely familiar for her native New Englander win. I hope she will continue this since there are still so many fun scent names to use, and to which she should add

    Vanilla Lime and Sun& Sand

which were reserved in my contests but never used.
