Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 14, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 300, Bronze: 200
  • Final notes:

Thank you All for your patience in my judging this contest.

EVERYONE has given me much to think on, and many reasons to stay sober, clean, and clear-headed. I feel blessed in knowing that so many can identify with addiction. It is always good to know we are not in it alone!

I was glad to see that so many who understand that addiction comes in many forms. This demon rears its ugly head in more areas than simply looking at drugs as the only culprit to addiction.

"It was never the drugs" has been the confession of those in recovery, those who have gone cold turkey on their own, and those who received 'divine intervention'...

I HAVE READ ALL THE ENTRIES! I apologize for not commenting on them all but I will do so when I get time to give constructive critique, and not hurried comments.

Tomorrow is the premier of our Youth Production; "if I can help somebody". I am frantically nervous, and cannot focus as I would like to on my commenting.

Our show is tomorrow at 3 pm s, I have to run.

    THANK YOU ALL for participating.

    The Winners:

    GOLD - "La Danse Macabre"

SILVER - "last time i saw her she didn't know me"

BRONZE - "A lie that knows no class"

    What exactly constitutes "glorifying" drugs?

    glorify:

    1. to cause to be or treat as being more splendid, excellent, etc., than would normally be considered.
    2. to honor with praise, admiration, or worship; extol.
    3. to make glorious; invest with glory.
    4. to praise, as an act of worship.

It's almost the same as "to glamorize" drugs. Making the abusive use of drugs something it is not.

Try to come from the harm of addiction rather than the good feel excessive use gives when we first begin to experiment with them. You know? That time before we cross that hair-line edge that grabs us by the throat, like a demon in the dark and takes total control...

    Anything else?

I submitted one and then I realized that in my eyes it didn't glorify drugs but in yours it might have.

you say you will allow them I have one called it "It always ends" it is all about addiction. But your entrance says new poems no prewrites and then you say in the opening that you will accept them. Which is it?
