With election time coming, I thought it would be an interesting idea to see what the poets here would write if they were to create something for inauguration day. One of my favorite pieces of poetry is "On the Pulse of Morning" by Maya Angelou. She read this at Bill Clinton's first inauguration in 1993.

Anyway, what would you write if you were helping herald in a new Presidency?
RULES:
1. No StICky CAps
2. No cursing or obscene language... this is a time of change and hope of the future.
3. Try to keep your political views out of the work... I'm not looking for discussion about the political issues or thumbing your nose at other people's beliefs. These poems are meant to help bring people together- not tear them apart.
Any form is fine with me and any length. If it is super short, though, it had better pack an emotional wallop.
Good luck Poets... and happy writing!
EDIT: 10/21/08 I have received a few poems in my contest and I thank all who have entered, but I haven't really seen what I have been looking for. I know there are a lot of people who are cynical about politics, but here is a chance to express our hopeful side... our belief that things can get better. Please read the Maya Angelou poem and let that inspire you and give me something GREAT!!!. Thanks to all...

Any President who shoows any signs of being progressive is quite likely to be assassinated in the same way as the Kennedys and others were.George
