I love vignettes. Moments caught and frozen by words. I want metaphor, simile, symbols, all the paraphanalia of a poem. I want to see show far more than tell.
Definition.
Vignette - 1: a running ornament (asof vine leaves, tendrils and grapes) put on or just before, a title page or at the beginning or end of a chapter ; also; a small decorative design or picture so placed 2 a: a picture ( as an engraving or photograph) that shades off gradually into the surrounding paper b: the pictorial part of a postage stamp design as distinguished from the frame and lettering. 3 a: a short descriptive literary sketch b: a brief incident of scene (as in a play or movie)
Examples: The moment when eyes first meet.
The moment after a kiss
The moment when memories strike after looking at a picture.
Don't tell me the feelings. Don't tell me much at all. Show me a moment.

is an example if you need one.
I don't think it should be longer than thirty lines or shorter than eight, but somewhere around there.
all the common sense rules apply.
This is Anonymous so don't rate my comments or reply until after judging. I really want to be suprised.
Try to come up with poems that aren't using the examples I have given. I want to see something i haven't thought of. I am offering big points so blow me away.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on October 7, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 500, Bronze: 250, Honorable mention: 3 people
- Final notes: The poems in this contest were outstanding. A delight to read and a gift to this contest holder. Sadly, in the end some must be choosen for awards and others left behind. I can only say thank you to everyone for making this job a very hard one.
I read and commented on everybody's poem because I think that is part of my responsiblity as a judge. I thank you all for expanding my sense of vingettes and for keeping me entertained and often inspired by what I read.
The top four in this contest I loved. Sadly one could only receive an HM. One of the poems, I read, felt more like a protest song then a vignette, but I loved it. Again my thanks, you all are glorious poets.
