Fiction On AllPoetry? Call Me Rebel!

Ok, maybe just call me Yem.

UPDATE: The 500 word limit is now updated to 700, and you may enter twice now.

Ok, poets, it's just 700 words but I think you can frame a decent short story out of that small space...Guy de Maupassant sometimes used less, and who was he?

Anything, any type: humor, dramatic, avant-garde, fantasy, you name it, just do your best, and have fun...and the food at the check-in desk...that's for me, don't touch it!

No poems please. I'll probably still read and comment on them but you won't place.

Oh, 700 words or less, not a word more...ok, maybe one or two.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on October 3, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 250, Bronze: 125, Honorable mention: 8 people
  • Final notes:
Everyone says at the end of a contest that the judging was not easy and probably they lie half the time, well this one wasn't easy. It was made even more difficult when one of the favorites for the gold was withdrawn from the contest. There were a number of different factors that went into this decision, but in the end I just went by the most simple method known to readers...which one did I enjoy the most.

Even that wasn't easy. The top 4 or 5 all had different qualities that appealed to me...A few had humor, another symbolism, yet another, showed the relationship of cause and effect.

I even waited an extra day before judging just so I could have a little distance between reading and my opinion of them.

I was quite pleased with the quality of the entries, there were only 11 brave souls who entered but the quality was better than I had hoped for or expected. Thanks everyone. If I do this again I hope you'll all enter.

And finally to say thank you and to show my appreciation for the quality of the entries, I gave honorable mentions to all the remaining entries. Thanks again,

    Yem

Guy de Maupassant (answering your question)

I don't like reserved spots, but might get one while I wait for a Red Square story.

Shouldn't the Red Square story come after the Red Square visit?

Go read Isaac Babel. I would guess he mentions the Red Square somewhere in his short stories.

Ooh, that will be a great read. I think I want to write one about that too. Somewhere in that church there must be at least one cow bone.

Just researching the history of that church would make the story worth writing.
