A Tribute To Real Republicans

Most of you probably know that the "Republican" Party has nominated two serial liars for their primary Presidential ticket. Those people are NOT Republicans. The Republican Party was murdered by Ronald Reagan, then zombized and nazified by the Bushes.

I'd like to see if anybody out there can write a decent poem about real Republicans, i.e., Barry Goldwater and Everett Dirksen, or maybe Dwight Eisenhower. There have been no real Republicans in years, so I don't think you can find anybody else to write about.

OKAY. NO LOVE POEMS. NO RELIGIOUS POEMS. NO EROTICA. NO PROFANITY. You can enter poems which make reference to love or religion as long as those are NOT the primary aim of the poem. What they would have to do with this contest is beyond me, but maybe you can find some really unusual viewpoint to expound on. I believe in SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE, PERIOD.

BE WARNED. I WILL TELL YOU THE TRUTH ABOUT YOUR WRITING. Many of you have never heard the truth, so it might be a shock. If you can't handle the truth, DO NOT ENTER. I believe in constructive criticism, and many people here need it badly.

Please watch your grammar, spelling and punctuation. Rhymed poems will do better if they are punctuated correctly. However, if you simply don't believe in punctuation, you can enter your poem anyway. If it's good, I will overlook the punctuation or lack of same. If it's bad, out you go.

Rhyming poems should not have inverted lines to put the rhyme words at the end, but should read like standard English. No lines which are just several phrases welded together, or just phrases or single words.

Keep in mind that using some form of the verb to do before another verb is archaic and not appreciated by ye olde judge.

No epics. Poems must not exceed 30 lines, period.

If you want an example of the type of poetry I like, here's one of my poems:

In Search Of A Chalice And A Pentacle

Proud Venus shines on a knight vainly searching
Through lonely days of rain, snow and hail --
In desolate wilderland, honor besmirching,
Sealed to the trail of a dream, and a Grail.
He knows full well that the end may be dreary,
His hopes unfulfilled, the ending uncertain,
But still he plods on, fatigued and bone-weary –
The future a mystery, a nebulous curtain.
Yet golden light glinting as day draws to close,
Beckons him onward, through trials and grief.
He yearns for a taste of the dew on the rose.
And envies his Lord's final words to the thief.
Still he knows, though the end be in tatters,
That life is, itself, the journey that matters.

As you can see, I don't mind references to religion as long as they make sense and as long as they are part of a poem and not a prayer. Save the prayers for Sunday services.

Good luck.

William F. Buckley - would he be considered a "real"
    Republican?

You know, I am not sure ...

about that. He was a bit too conservative, more like Joe McCarthy than Barry Goldwater. Still, I guess he'd qualify far more than these monkeys nowadays. At least he was intelligent, even if I thought he was more of a neandertal than a Republican. However, he wasn't really malicious, so he'd have never made it in the present day Republican Party.

      They're neo-nazis.

The peculiar form usually used for them is "neo-cons", and that's appropriate since they they are con artists to the maximum degree, but they are actually neo-nazis.

      I see ...

on rereading your comment that you missed the point here. The present Republican Party represents all the things you mention. The now defunct Republican Party, murdered and zombi-ized by the radical right, is not the real Republican Party. It died with Barry Goldwater and Everett Dirksen. These people are serial liars, thieves, and all kinds of assorted nutcakes, but they are NOT Republicans.

This is an unusual topic, which I don't feel qualified to write about. But the writes should be interesting to read.

Ha! Ha!,I love this witty quip----"Those people are NOT Republicans. The Republican Party was murdered by Ronald Reagan, then zombized and nazified by the Bushes.". I describes the far rights agenda and ra ra ra sheep followers blinded to realities. You're right of course on assessing the neo-far rights persona. But I'm afraid most on both sides have either forgotten histories taught lessons of what a democracy is. Most have no idea of what our American Constitution says.Or forgot it. Maybe it should be posted so we can be understood on both the right and lefts and independants ideals per the all important document. We as Americans have amended, skewed, and ignored our forefathers intent as written.Great idea for a contest. And I share with a few ideals belonging to both dominient parties. However,if the democracy of our republic is going to come back in line with it's workable original intent. We must know what was the intent.

    Wow!

After I stopped in at your HP & saw a few things 'bout you I'm wishing I knew enough about politics & our Republican Pres....oh....I think I can write something...even though I'm not really into politics at all! I did write a political type poem just a few days ago & was thinking of submitting, but it's 32 lines & not really fitting your criteria! Lets see if I get inspired to write a ditty about a Republican. If I did vote I would be one! That's a pole shift for me from my youth!

      Keep in mind ...

that the Republican Party is no longer the Republican Party. This is a contest for poems about Republicans who were true patriotic Americans. No present Republicans are patriotic at all. They are serial liars, thieves, and all varieties of miscreants, but not patriotic. You have to have a thinking brain to be patriotic. One of my entries is about Abraham Lincoln, who was certainly a true patriot. Everett Dirksen was a true patriot, as was Barry Goldwater. Ronald Reagan was not, and neither is George Bush (or any Bush), and certainly McCain is not patriotic. He's sold his soul a long time ago, and is now only in it for the power and money.

Make no mistake. This is only a democracy by name. America has become a true blown Oligarchy, and so shall it remain with ever tightening grips on our lives and pocketbooks until there's a revolution--which will be more difficult than revolutions of the past given the level of technological control this oligarchy can and will wield.

    Thanks to the few ...

who entered. I had hoped to have more entries, but often I find that if the subject calls for a thinking brain, it's not popular on this site.

Kudos to those who did enter and good luck with your writing in the future.

    Jim

I am most surprised. I am an Aussie! Is there something I know that many Americans do not?
Thank you, sage judge. This is, for me, a reward but more so for Abe.
