This contest is for the people who not only died during 9/11 but also survived.
This date marked a changing point for many people.
Not only for people but for the world.
People in the USA and outside of the USA showed their support now in return we ask for the poets of AllPoetry to come together and show their thanks.
Here are your choices -
1. Write a poem of thanks to the many people who became heros. Perhaps in saving another life but losing their own. Many stories I am sure that we haven't even heard of.
2. Write a dedication to the ones that lost their life that day.
3. Write a prayer to the families that lost loved ones, or a prayer of thanks to the firemen, and ones that worked to help get people out and survive.
4. Write a poem about how 9/11 changed your life.
5. Be inspired by this song right here -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nf7Q1Qgeg-c
Write a poem in dedication to the children that lost parents that day or to the parents that lost children that day.
Rules -
1. Please be really careful with comments. We ask that only during this contest the comments not be harsh nor bashing. Please be respectful to other poets in this contest. Thanks.
2. Please try to not go over 40 lines. It's ok if you do but please know that we would really perfer short poems.
3. It doesn't matter if you use form or not but please make all text readable. No really busy backgrounds, or really bright ones. Sometimes bright backgrounds can take away from the text. If in doubt just use a white background with black text or blue.
4. Please no profanity or sensual writes. Keep everything G rated. This contest is opened for all ages.
5. We will be allowing prewrites but only one write per person.
6. Please be careful with 9/11 images on your poems. Many are nono's. Try checking and see if you are able to give proper credit with your image. That would be really appreciated. If you can avoid using images that would be even more appreciated but if you use them please check copyright.
7. You may reserve a spot but please know that when it's close to judging time you'll only get one warning then it'll be removed if it's not completed in time. This contest will be opened for 50 people. We will be sending a contest note a few days before judging to let you know.
8. THERE WILL BE NO BASHING/INSULTING POEMS ALLOWED. They WILL be Deleted and possibly reported to the mods.
JustSimplyLissa will be the cojudge of this contest. Sometimes we may view a poem before commenting but we'll always comment on it before we judge it. We might tell you ahead of time though if there's something wrong with your poem so you can have time to change it.
Prizes -
1.The gold winner will be gifted a one month gold membership thanks to Kevin.
2.The silver winner will be gifted a one month silver membership thanks to Kevin.
3. The bronze winner will have their poem featured on the side worth four clicks.
There may or may not be honorable mentions. It depends on how many enter.
If enough people enter there will be three honorable mentions. If less then 15 enter there won't be.
Points will increase depending on how many people enter the contest.
All winners including honorable mentions will have their poems put in the spotlight for the front page.
First the top three will be spotlighted on one day and then the honorable winners the next.
If you have any questions it's better to IM both JustSimplyLissa and myself instead of asking here. We might miss the note.
This contest will be opened for the full two weeks and judged around the end of the month. That gives you plenty of time to write if you reserve a spot.
To the ones that enter the contest we look forward to reading your poems!
A special thank you to the poets who have donated points for this contest!
---- UPDATE ----
BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS SO PATIENT WE DECIDED TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF HM'S to 20 Winners!
Thanks
Lissa and Kari
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on October 4, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 400, Bronze: 300, Honorable mention: 20 people
- Final notes: Vera won gold because hers is very unique and gives a positive perspective on the good that can grow from such things. It's very philosophical.
Artis won silver because the emotions are very deep. You can really feel the pain in this piece.
light insight won bronze because the ending of it is very powerful.
It was very hard picking the honorable mentions and and the top winners. All of you wrote very touching and deep poems. The HM's aren't in any specific order.
Congrats to the winners and thank you all for being so patient with the judging of this contest.
Kari and Lissa
