Hello, my name is Airman first class Jennafer Penneau, I am currently stationed in a deployed location where I perform aircraft maintenance in 120 degree plus weather 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. I work 90+ hours a week in some of the most grueling weather under both hot and humid conditions without complaint. I work swiftly and quietly to uphold the freedoms that all americans hold dear.
On this patriots day i salute every man and woman wh ois in the armed froces or part of the department of defense, or homeland security. I know how underappreciated we are. as an airman, i get the blunt of the "desk jockey" jokes, and i know that the "Civilian world" never gets a glimpse into our everyday lives, so they think that we get paid for a mediocre service. they think that our lives are easy because we get all these benifits for a 9 to 5 job.
here is the challenge, i want to know, what you (military or non) have sacrificed for someone else, It can be someone you know or you don't know. it can be a group of people, hell, it can be an ideology for all i care, I want to see how you have altered your life, for the good of others.
16 hours a day on a good day.
sweat tears and lots of blood.
having a family, and a permanant home
a normal sleep schedule
the abilithy to call in sick
the ability to go to school without sacrificing job performance.
the ability to say no
being home for holidays
freedom
and free time
my first ammendment right to say what i want, to whomever i want
chosing WHO I work for.
Those are a few... Now looking at that, i don't care how trivial you think your sacrifice is, i still want to hear it.
If you are military and are writing about those sacrifices (and only if it is your military sacrifices) I would like you to write (Military) in your title... just so that we can see the differences.
I am not trying to belittle the sacrifices of te everyday person, I just want everyone to see and appreciate the differences in what we give up... choose your side.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on November 14, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 250, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 4 people
- Final notes: There a few things that need to be said after judging this contest. Most of these entries were about the military, or in some way related to war, But I tried to incorperate as many as possibe. There are some very Beautiful poems out there, if you didn't win, don't feel discouraged, I only have so many trophies to give.
I found out recently that i killed 9 marines, Through just not being fast enough. An aircraft broke, I work on takers which are the heart and soul of our fleet, With out the tanker nothing gets done... I had a part to change, The aircraft got up 30 miniutes late, The Bomber that it was scheduled to refuel tanked (took gas) 20 miniutes late, and in that 20 miniutes where the bomper should have gotten to camp, and the time it did, 9 marines gave their lives. I am 19 years old... it is hard to have a body count at that age. Truth is, we don't care how many of the bad guys we kill, we are more interested on how many of our guys we save... It seems I was misunderstood in my meaning for this contest, from a couple entries... I am not looking for praise, I am not asking for thank yous, We ust want to know that we are appreciated. When we come home and are treated with disdain, that hurts, because the fact of the matter is, It is all for everyone else.
Thank you for all of my participants, and I am sorry it took so long to judge this contest, you all did an outstanding job, and it is good to see what everyone goes through in life.
I love you all!

I think that if you are in the services then well done. It doesn't matter how big or small others may feel your job is. What matters is how it makes you feel. God bless you. and thanks for serving our country.

God Bless You!
My daughter is serving in the Army. I wrote my poem for her because of what she told me. At first when I found out that she had joined, I was scared for her life. After she told me why she had to go. I was very proud of her. I am proud of you and all the others that have done what is right, to stop what is wrong! God bless you! Hope you all return safely! The Shaker
