POETS SURVIVOR 3 -- FINAL ROUND- Part A

Congratulations to chugglepuff, Peteskid and Everwind Rising who beat out the many other contestants to vie for the title of Poets Survivor 3.

The Final Round will be given in three installments. Your scores from the three poem submissions will be added together for a final total score.

This first installment is perhaps the easiest of all. You must simply search your poetry for the best piece that you have entered into this Poets Survivor 3 contest series. Then enter it below.

Things to consider when choosing what to enter:

* The judging rubric will be fairly generic since the poems you submit will be varied. Your poem of strong imagery may be put up against one of strong language technique, or perhaps a form. Judges' preferences may naturally come into play when choosing between several exceptional poems, though we will always endeavor to be unbiased.

* You might choose a piece that has a wide appeal, but feel free to be selective; the choice is yours.

* Consider what poem not only appeals to you the most, but what poem had the best response by the judges and other contestants.

* Choose something that you feel represents you well.

* You may make minor edits to your prewrite, but as a whole, your poem should closely resemble the version submitted for the original contest.

So, that's it! No major challenge. Each of you have written pieces that can win this round--the trick will be choosing the right one, especially considering what the other poets might choose.

CHOOSE CAREFULLY. ONCE YOU SUBMIT, YOU MAY NOT CHANGE YOUR ENTRY!!!!!!!!!

Get to choosing!

JUDGING RUBRIC:
(Judges-Do NOT award any HALF points, whole numbers only, please.)

10 Understandability (intended message AND individual parts/methods are clear)
15 Poetic Device (all poetic devices included, whether form or free verse)
15 Emotion/Impact (does this piece affect the reader intellectionally, emotionaly, etc. to what degree?)
10 Mechanics (punctuation/or omission should be beneficial, spelling/grammar correct, or beneficial)

* Note to judges concerning Mechanics: Proper punctuation/spelling/grammar is expected at this level of competition. BUT, some poets intentionally leave out punctuation, or may even play with the grammar for effect. Judge according to the mechanics' overall effect on the reading of the poem, NOT on your personal preferences or practices. Any "incorrect" items should be clearly intentional, or stylistically consistent, and should not adversely affect the reading of the poem. Otherwise they may be considered errors.

  • Final notes:
Contestants, this announcement has been long awaited for...the first set of results for Survivor's final rounds!!!! I made an executive decision to NOT drop any of the judges scores, high or low. This is the final round and there were no guest judges who might deliver surprising, contradictory scores. Just us home folk, Ryan, Bunny and ten. I feel confident in both the objectivity and consistency of our judging panel, and felt the dropping was not necessary in this case, particularly since you had three chances to display your amazing ranges of talent before us!

This was the prewrite round, and all the poems had already proven themselves worthy of recognition. Allow me to congratulate you all for some truly outstanding poetry.

Thank you for you patience, and I hope all of you are proud of your immense accomplishments!
    ______________________________________
Gold -- Vandal--Everwind Rising--A poem of intensely gripping mood, imagery and message, written with decided precision.

Silver-- Animated Suspension--chugglepuff--A poem exploding with imagery both unique and striking, bringing the reader to its philosophic and deeply human climax.

Bronze-- Signs--Peteskid--A poem of incredible beauty and metaphor that is both singular and all encompassing in its scope and message, pointing us to the hope and transformation brought by the sign of promise found in the universal power we call love.

Congratulations to all the finalists, and thank you to my fellow judges Ryno and Cupcrazy.
