hurricanes gustav and hanna
who knows :
if hurricanes have "eyes"
they might also have a "heart" ...
- let's nourrish the peace inside the "eye" of the hurricane
- let's share compassion for the humans, animals and plants concerned
- therefore, please no horror-scenarios nourrishing fear
my own spontaneous "prayer to hurricane hanna" :
Beloved Hurricane Hanna,
I come to you in peace
please listen to my plea :
SpiritMother has told me of you and
of your brother Gustav spitting out his anger
over lands and waters
I understand your anger with the humans
who abuse Mother Earth
destroying their Mother
who sustains and loves them
I am angry, too …
but please, Hanna,
remember that your name means “grace”,
I share this name with you, it is one of mine,
so I beg you today to
appease brother Gustav
and become a blessing
instead of a nightmare
to all the living beings who are
trembling with fear at your approach
I have been crying, fearing, trembling
with all those concerned
and am doing my best
to accomplish my humble task
to transform the heavy energy into
light energy
as an Inka Elder has taught me
in dreamtime
I have called upon my totem grouse
to accompany me while I took
the sacred spiral journey into your depth
far beyond the agitated surface
into this silent and unmoving space
into your eye
eye to eye
I was in communion with you
because your nature
is my very own
your anger is mine
your inner peace is mine
please Hanna
take brother Gustav by the hand
and ask him to turn within
where his fear and anger
shall be absorbed
I am waiting for him
to join us
in this sacred space
and to become
Peace

How can one "appease" a hurricane? It either happens or it doesn't.

in a conventional context, it might sound arrogant to pretend to be able to appease a natural force through human intervention, yet many aboriginal spiritual traditions practice such techniques ... shamans, as selfless instruments of the great spirit, communicate with the elements ... "raindances" and similar millenary rituals are still practiced today ...
our very thoughts have been scientifically proven to have a direct impact on the immediate and extended environment, and first of all, on ourselves ...
everything in the manifested universe is interrelated, and there is nothing that exists that "just happens" in my experience ... the universal law of cause and effect can be observed in our daily lives, and it is our lack of connectedness with nature, inner and outer, that prevents us from realizing that somehow, it all makes "sense" ...
we must become conscious that even diseases don't just "happen to us", as goes the common belief, which further leads to the desire to cure the symptoms, instead of going to the origin of the issue ... but that there is a root-cause that has to be addressed ... it may lay in this life (unhealthy lifestyle, unloving thoughts and deeds etc. - meant in a factual and non-judgmental way), and/or in previous lives (karmic cause) ...
the same goes for natural catastrophies ... they are closely interrelated with human abuse of nature, and their mental imbalance reflects in the imbalance of the forces of nature (too much or too little rain, tsunamis etc.)
the wisest approach to "appease a hurricane" therefore would definitely be to honor and cherish our planet, to treat it with love and consideration as we would treat our own mother ...

in a way I agree with Bill, hurricanes are natural force with no self awareness
I do believe in the power of collective prayer but... not to the hurricane
Gustov took lives and left many homeless before leaving Jamaica but we are thankful because it hit us as a tropica storm
I understand your worry and will give a prayer, though not to the hurricane
