Peteskid is Getting Wiser!!!--birthday tribute

http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/0202/orion_gendler.jpg

Those of you who know Peteskid have come to love him, I'm sure. He is articulate, impassioned, intelligent, gentle, hopeful, charming, on an "off" day--quite funny... Those of you who know him REALLY well, know he can be a real stubborn pain in the cushion, too, but SUCH an endearing one. Well, his birthday is in two days, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 27.

This contest is to express our affection and appreciation for him, in honor of another year of wisdom and grace.

I am not necessarily asking you to write "birthday" poems, but think he might prefer poems on topics and themes of his interests, and if so inspired, those themes as they relate to him.

Use his poetry to inspire you, or something he has said that has stuck with you.

Please feel free to reserve, but do come back. If you could write before his birthday, even better, but no need to rush it...the contest closes at the end of the week.

Thanks so much,

ten

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on September 4, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 600, Bronze: 400, Honorable mention: 1 people
  • Final notes:

Well, our friend's special day has come and gone and please allow me to extend my most sincere thanks to all of you for helping to make it great. Each of you offered gifts of humor, anecdote, passion, and honor. They were heartfelt and I'm certain, received as such. Thank you so much for taking time to show how much you care.

Gold was awarded to the truly inspirational poem that touched so well upon the kind of passion, courage and voice that PK has.

Silver so well captured PK's ability to glean and reflect with such vivid expression.

Bronze spoke softly and beautifully of the lingering effect of PK's more romantic poetry.

HM was awarded to a wonderful Cento, comprised entirely of lines from PK's poetry. Such effort and skill goes into making something so unified and beautiful.

There were other favorites among the entries, and each one of you were thoughtful and kind. This one is really not at all about the trophies, but congratulations to all!

And once again, PK, we all thank you for your friendship, your influence, and your heart. Abundant blessings to you, now and in the year to come. Lots of sugar from all us gals.

Funny thing about pains in the cushions--you actually CAN'T see them. They just kinda sneak up on ya from behind.

And you're so welcome, and so deserving of something special. So much more than any of us can offer you here on this page. Happy Birthday, my friend.

I have to tell a funny tale about my friend PK.
He's been a kindly gentleman since the very first day.
We met through "penmen", another gentleman on this site.
Introduced to Peteskid in the wee hours of the night.
I got to know him through his writings for almost a year.
    I loved to see, and feel, yes touch...I loved to even hear;
The words he played like violin with strum of tunes I knew...
Found in his words the power of hope, and what that hope could do.
I thought he was a youngster, he displayed respectfulness.
Still a kid at heart to me, HAPPY BIRTHDAY and Be Blessed!

You know what I'm talkin 'bout PK!

Enjoy every moment of your day tomorrow!

    Much Love Always ♥

That is so funny to me, Renee. Just hilarious! He DOES give off that youthful air. Before I knew him much, I, too thought he was a young guy! I suppose it is his graciousness as you say. I was guessing 19-21 or so, LOL. But then, when I would read his poetry, I always thought, WOW, I can't believe how wise this kid is for his age! Too, too, funny!!!!!! I'm so glad you shared that and made me remember!

Thanks so much for stopping by to wish him well, doll.

One of our first conversations were about life in New York and Central Park. I never really paid attention to the Park before then but since, each time I walk through (and that's often nowadays), I see the green of the trees and cabbies. I can't remember if it was through a comment or in one of his poems, I see the forest. Maybe not all the time, but when I slow down, there are roses. And that's PK.

    Happy Boitday, brother.

Thanks for honoring my cento. Since I cannot write as beautifully as PK, I wanted to let him know how much I love his poems and his romantic soul. Congratulations to the other winners.
