Please follow the rules:

-No religion bashing.
-No endline rhyme.
-No centered poetry.
-No emo, death, horror.
-No blatant porn.
-No flashy backgrounds.

If I don't get at least ten entries I will delete the contest.

What I want is for you to write me a poem that contains both wet and dry imagery. Take me from a thirsty state of mind to a drenched aftermath; or vice versa. Make the dry versus wet imagery stunning. I want to feel it like I was there. If you want to reserve that is fine. Please come back and finish.

DRY:

arid, baked, bare, barren, biting, boring, cynical, dehumidify, dehydrate, depleted, drain, droll, dull, dusty, empty, evaporate, evaporated, fruitless, harden, infumate (dry in smoke), insolate (dry in the sun), moistureless, monotonous, parch, parched, rainless, sapless, sarcastic, sear, shrivel, shriveled, teetotaler, thirsty, torrefy, towel, uninteresting, unproductive, vapid, waterless, wipe, wither, withered

WET:

damp, dampen, dampened, dampness, dank, dewy, douse, drench, drenched, drizzling, foggy, humid, irrigate, misty, moist, moisten, moisture, muggy, rain, rainy, saturate, shower, slippery, sluice, snowy, soak, soaked, sodden, soggy, soppy, splash, sprinkle, sweat, swill, wash, water, waterlogged, watery, wring

OCTOBER RAIN
—Charity Bryson, Grass Valley

gray pine
needles scorched.

baked earth

fog
hanging in the air
cloaking to pine.

mist gathers
falls
leaving
pearled patterns
in the dust.

rain becomes
a russet trail
sucked deep
by parched roots.

Poem for inspiration only. Now go be inspired.

Hey, I hope that what I entered is appropriate, even though it's a bit sad...

i Must say I am stunned. I was sure i was so far off base that you would enjoy my piece but feel it did not meet what you were looking for. I really thought a more nature type piece is what you thought. I really liked the challenge and the idea and after letting it percolate in my creative juices the piece showed up.

Thank you, thank you for the gold. I am honored. Suprised and touched but really appreciative.

    Love Tom B.

Well, I wasn't really sure what I was looking for when I started this one. Your poetry is always beautiful. This piece was no exception. It touched me.
