Poetry Contest--For Children Up To Age 12

Hi, and welcome! This contest will be for kids ages 1-12, and you will be split into 2 age groups:

Ages 1-10 will be in Group 1
Ages 11-12 will be in Group 2

There will also be 2 rounds, but you don't have to worry about that. It is just to help me judge, and here's how it will go:
Out of all of the entries, I will choose 1 winner from each age group, and set them as "Preliminary Finalists". Out of those 2 winners, I will choose 1 that will take the gold, and the other will take silver.

All judging is based on the following:

~Creativity
~Effort
~Conventions (spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.)
~Age
~Following rules
~Quality

RULES:
~Make it "G" Rated. No swearing, erotica, etc.
~Put your age in the author's notes
~No more than 30 lines

So, are you wondering what to write about? Write about anything! Your summer, your family, any adventure you had, pets, your favorite food, or just anything that interests you! Don't be afraid to get creative and use your imagination. That's what being a kid's all about!

If you didn't understand something above, please ask me or a parent to explain it to you.

Have fun!!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on August 25, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 150
  • Final notes:
Okay, the contest is finally over, and I have decided on two finalists, one from each age group!

Kitten at Play, in group 1 (age 9), won gold because I really loved the imagery and descriptiveness of one so young. She (or he) really described a little kitten playing with leaves so perfectly. My mind just got so wrapped up in this wonderful poem. Congratulations!

And Demon, in group 2 (age 11), won silver because he (or she) used very, very amazing words to describe his or her problem. I just loved the flow and the topic. Congrats!

You all entered amazing poems. I'm so glad I hosted this contest, because now, I know that poetry is an interest of everyone, not just teens and adults. Thank you all for entering, and I had fun reading all of your entries!

PS: Sorry, winners, that I had to call you he or she! I just don't know your names because this contest was anonymous. Anyway, congratulations again!

When you say appropriate for little kids to view, you also mean talking about concepts that they are able to understand, am I correct?

Ahaha, no. I have one, and I entered it once, but it got kicked out, cause it was "Too complex" --- that is, it was a different one than this.

It's entitled "Kaleidoscope" if ever you'd like to see it.
