This is a photograph of my mother and two uncles, taken some eighty years ago. Think about it.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on August 23, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 1 people
- Final notes: This ended up a far more difficult contest to judge than I anticipated when I posted it. Between the beginning and the end of the contest, both my mother and my last remaining uncle (the younger of the two boys in the picture) passed away...just over a week from each other. (I also lost my last aunt two weeks before my mother). So everything about the poems is tinged with the past three weeks. I much appreciate the effort everyone expended in writing about the photograph; if my comments seem a bit disorganized or brief, I hope you will forgive me.
Again, many thanks for the poems, the images, the thoughts, and the response to the past.

oh... Very nice photograph

I just love old photographs, they always make me wonder what was in their thoughts at that moment and what was held within their eyes outside our view.
I hope you get some really great entries for this one

I have some pictures just like this of my parents. I would love to enter this one but nothing is coming to mind at this time. I'll keep thinking though, who knows something just might click. I can't wait to read the ones that are entered!!

Thank you for the silver trophy. This contest is a subject dear to my heart. I have a whole series of poems written about various members of my family, ancestors and descendants.
Regarding your picture: as I went through old photos after my parents' deaths, I found a recurring theme in them: people posing with their automobiles. There were pictures of my parents and their car; my parents and their siblings with the car; my grandparents with their car; and on and on. I have no explanation; I just found it interesting.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss of your mother and other family members. Sounds like you've had a rough month indeed. Please know you'll be in my thoughts.
