I remember it was Monday night in early August.Walls blocked the inch of breeze wading from the north. A ceiling fan
whiffed on medium while the swiveling fan made it just cool enough
to tease our brains to sleep.
Drowsed in my room to share the draft, he didn’t seem to mind the blinds
open smidgens enough to let in crumbs of air and
hours of bedtime aura.
Two big cat cubs huddled under his elbow still smiling when his
sleepy-song broke the steady whirr of the cycling wind.
He needed a haircut – golden strawberry strands danced with every pass
of the machined wafts. Cricket-grasshopper ankles sang off-key
while the melatonin evened out busy brainwaves.
Allergies snarfled through the night: open windows and zealous cats.
In shark-infested dreams he is king of the sea – scepter rubber-
banded to his arm,
mer-life is content.

Good Luck, and thank you!
