Ok guys! Be prepared to be shocked. This is a Free Verse contest! Yes Amera, Jeff and Allan are co-hosting a contest for Free Verse poets. You “Free Verserers” have been judging our poetry without understanding the time and effort it takes to compose formal poetry so it’s our turn to try to learn and assess the work of the best Free Verse poets on the site. We want to learn from the best, so please, give us your best! No epics, no prose, just pure Free Verse.
You each have your own poetic voice and you each are the best at what you do; be it metaphor, alliteration, unrhymed meter or imagery. We are putting up a few points here so we are looking for poems that will blow our sox off. This contest will run ‘till the end and there is one spot for each of you so take your time.
I promise that I will stop any fighting between Allan and Jeff during the judging of this contest. We will play no favorites and the poems entered will stand on their own. This is a difficult contest as you can see by the poets invited.
In no particular order, these are who we consider the best
Free Verse writers on the site and are the invitees to our contest
Rules:
The poets invited to this contest don’t need any.
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on August 20, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 5000, Silver: 2000, Bronze: 1000, Honorable mention: 7 people
- Final notes: First of all, allow me to express how thrilled I am that you fine poets made my humble contest such a runaway success! I challenged you all to give your best and I most certainly got my wish. Thank you. Judging was both a delight and a nightmare! A delight because there were so many great poems to sink our teeth into, and a nightmare because we had to choose only one for gold one for silver and one for bronze. Thank goodness that I had Allan and Jeff to help me. Fortunately, we had a unanimous winner In Dalaney’s stunning; “Round One”. That saved lots of aggravation. We agonized over the second and third spots with 5 different poems contending for the 2 spots very seriously. Moqui's wonderful rhythmic masterpiece; “Jazz Drummer” won a bloody and fierce battle for second barely beating out Cinnarry's “writing to forget what's written”. Mairi's; “all for the love of a bonney girl in blue” and Myrataal's; “When You should come to me in Sacred Thought” were seriously contending for second place as well. We are confident that we were fair in our judging, yet these could have been put in any order and we could have justified it. It was that close. Thank you all once again for putting such a collection of world class poetry in one contest.

I'm not worthy...I'm not worthy...

Just kidding, I'm all over it like a hungry hound dog on the Christmas ham.
-
-
Go you! Woof!
-
i just noticed this ... all i can say is, ya are to so quit yer whinin' ... not worthy!!!
LOL .. by the way, what do think of the effects of free weight training with lighter weights to increase definition, as the body can get fooled with lighter weights due to the effects of muscle exhaustion and even one pound can make the body think it is lifting much more, depending of course of the particular target muscle, which allows a greater number of reps ... ? seriously curious. you seem to me to be a kind of healthy, muscular guy who likes to keep in shape... oh, and i love yer poem here.
yer ardent

so cool

-
oh man, I'm truly flattered!
I'll put my best in here
-
Obviously, your flattery knows no bounds!
Thank-you so much for listing me among these
major talents, but I fail to equate my ability
with many here when it comes to free verse.
I will have to see if Blue can gather her courage
in time to enter. If not, I will certainly be
thrilled to read and enjoy all the entries here!
*smile*

As I said; you all have a different poetic voice and yours is simply amazing.
-
-
Glad
I have some time. I'm honored to be included on the list, although I do write rhyme. {or kind'a, as I'm still trying to write a GOOD poem in metered rhyme.lol -
Good luck everyone.Di
-
-
You were considered for this list Di but you’re actually of the best sonneteers.

"You “Free Verserers” have been judging our poetry without understanding the time and effort it takes to compose formal poetry"
You think so? -
-
You like that word? "Free Verserers"
I made it up.
-
-
Wow.. thank you for the invite. Some amazing poets in there!
No rules huh?
Given the way my muse has been so temperamental lately I'm a wee bit scared to enter, but I'm flattered to be asked!
-
-
Don't be scared, you're unique and one of the best.

OK I have not read everyone
Listed here, but now I plan on doing so, lol... Amera I do know the time you all put into your writes, thats why I am a free writer.
I think for some writing comes naturally for free verse, and for others I think form is easier. I am honored to be on this list as among a few here I have read and admire their writes and the great part of this contest is I am getting to read more free writers, however honestly all truth aside I do love the poetry form, I jsut stink at it so I stick to free verse. LOL... Thank you for including me here, I just hope my muse is up for it, have not been writing much these days and when I do I don't feel it so I will have to see what occurs, but for now I am off to read my compaatition *skeered*

cool

You guys sure chose well

Good luck to everyone.

mmmm ... from the looks of this bunch, yer not gonna have any socks left to blow off by the time i get in there ... oh, wanted to say: I love cinquain and sestina and vilanelles and couple of others more than I do free verse, but I write free verse because it allows me to experiment with random rhyme and to use the concept of of a harp /// you take a harp and just touch it here and touch it there and pretty soon you've got this ringing out but the reader doesn't know from where
... also, I love it when i read a word and it rhyms, with something, but it shouldn't but it does and that's because it got set up that way on purpose, now you format cats (
) ... the ones really good like you guys here that are throwin' this thing, well, I admit your skills and your poetic accomplishments are simply brilliant ... and I must say when I finish a sestina, its beauty and its powerful appearance worth sighing over all by itself, it makes me happier than the greatest free verse poem I ever have written, but
... i need the experimentation and pure joy of swathing my heart and soul the way it is ...
i never never think of poets who write what you guys write as anything other than brilliant artists.
but I diverge and must get to my cute little poem for you guys

After looking at the list I would agree there are many that can be classified "a class above". I wish each and everyone of them to have inspiration bring out their best here, I shall sidle off now and pray that I might be invited to the next contest like this (if there is to be one).
-
I'll be watching
the most awesome talent gathered here. It will make for some excellent poetry, but then they always do pen, excellently.
BTW, I'm on vacation,yea!! That's why I'm here more.
Later y'all,
Buddy -
i will give it a shot and thank you i think i am out of my league here
-
What a lovely idea!
Hope you enjoy and I would be reading each entry so I can learn a little too
ENJOY!!! -
I can't wait!!!!

I always have one happy and one sad eye when I receive invitations like yours ... the happy one beams with joy about the love and friendship shared ... the sad one looks at the crowd standing behind the fence and sadly peaking inside the garden of the playground asking : "why can't I play with you ?" ... then I just want to make a hole in the fence so they can all come in and laugh and play, too ...
well, honestly, I don't think my freeverse reaches the little toe of some of the poets listed here ... but this might be a great opportunity to work on it ...
I thank all three of you for hosting this contest ...
hugs to all,
maa

I hope it’s not from something I did to offend you. I will remove your name from the list. The fence isn’t that high. Others have asked for a position, I have reviewed their work and made a spot for them.
-
-
ooops, I have the impression that now it is actually ME who has offended you ... I truly appologize if my words sounded ungrateful or disrespectful ...
it was just a general statement about invite-contests and the feeling I always get when reading the multitude of comments by poets not included (sometimes I'm in that place, too
) ...
again, sorry, I didn't mean to offend any of you guys, and felt very happy and honored to have received your invitation ...
I respect your decision to remove my name from your list, although now I have 2 sad eyes ... well, that's life ...
blessings to all

When I first came to Ap, I was into Celtic forms, and varied meters, so I do know how much time, effort and thought well-structured poetry takes.

I think everyone needs to find their own voice whether it be free style, structured, or a combination of both. lol.
A very talented group you have me among, honored and humbled, thank you.
I'll see what I can do, again, my thanks.

Just thought I'd leave my stamp here to let you know I haven't forgotten --

an extension
... does that mean i can make my poem comprehensible ? ... wow ... coooeeel ... i think I shall do a few very tiny adjustments, which I thought about but which I, being an enhanced humanoid, decided was merely the twittering of my former human self
.. and so foolishly, as enhanced humanoids such as myself often are, I ignore my human captive and now I sea the air or of my wheys!!!
... so its off to the pity farm to make a minor, very minor, I must say, change at the top, which is always to say, 'and nowhere else'

Hi Amera, Allan and Jeff!!
I'm sorry.. I really don't think I can write anything worthy of this contest right now! I really do appreciate you including me in this list and am sorry to let you down.
Good luck to all the contestents though, and you three of course with judging!

Congratulations to the winners and thank you all for hosting
