CONTEST #35 FOR HUGH WYLES FAVORITES ONLY!
FRIEND - One of the most beautiful words in the English language!
(The Joy in this life, when you sum it all up, is found in the making of FRIENDS!)
Please write me a poem about FRIENDS!
What do your FRIENDS mean to you?
What is the nicest thing a FRIEND has ever done for you?
Are you your own BEST FRIEND?
A FRIEND of mine recently told me she just lost her BEST FRIEND (she was referring to her pet dog who had to be put to sleep due to the infirmities of old age). There are many people who consider their pets to be their best friends. Do you think this is a sad commentary on today's society or a commmonplace occurrence?
What is it about a dog that has earned it the title MAN'S BEST FRIEND? Conversely, what can a human friend give us that a pet dog (or cat) never could?
These are just a few of the questions I'd like you to explore in this contest. You could focus on one of them or include all of them in your poem. Please include any other thoughts or feelings you have regarding FRIENDS.
Medical authorities have stated how important FRIENDS are for our mental, emotional and physical health. One thing is certain...we would all be poorer without them!!!
Usual Rules Apply:
1. No black backgrounds, please.
2. Rhyming poems are appreciated.
3. Maximum of two entries per participant.
4. All entrants need to vote for their choice for first, second and third place stating name of author and title of poem within 48 hours after contest closes. Please note: Contest will close August 22nd (plenty of time for you to submit your poem). Please send your vote by IM to huguenauties, not to me or King Hugh.
5. Officials may enter but cannot win. Their entries will include "NON-ENTRY" in the title and are not included in the voting.
6. This contest is NOT anonymous. Please sign your name at the end of each entry.
Winner of the GOLD trophy will return 300 points to huguenauties for future contests. The winner will host the next contest which will begin September 1, 2008.
There will be three Honorable Mentions.
BEST OF LUCK to all who enter! I'm looking forward to reading some beautiful poems!

I could get very serious in this contest but I'll try to refrain.

Some great questions (and incitations
) of which will probably take me far from the path...but who cares?
I like this topic Maureen, it gets Yem's silliness and Ima's boring, cynical thoughts turning. -
Umm, shouldn't Maureen's name be added to the list of hosts. Or am I drunk on Moxie?
-
-
Hi Yem,
I thought my name would automatically appear in the right hand corner...oh, dummy me...thanks to your astute observation, I will now be notified when you enter my contest.
Don't want to rush you or anything but you will get 100 points if you're one of the first five to enter! (If I could make it Moxie, I would!)

YEM!!!! COOEEEEE Why did you remove your poems???
-
-
The poems didn't meet with someone's favor...I won't name any names but it rhymes with Maursheen.
So I promised to write Maursheen a positive, happy, la la la la, sap sap sappy poem instead.

Thank you for the bronze cup. It came just in time...all the dishes in the house are dirty and now I don't have to wash them for another three or so days...
-
Yay! Friendship!
Congratulations to M-C, Joan and Yem, and well done to Darlene, Dee, Heath and Susan. It was a pleasure to participate in this contest. Good luck to M-C in setting the next challenge.

a great idea to have contestants vote for the "winners", it takes off so much burden and unease from the contest-host ... here, (s)he is offering the space, kindness and points, and the opportunity for poets to encourage each other in a creative manner ...
wonderful ...
