1984

*** ATTENTION PLEASE ***

I'm really sorry, I can't judge this contest right now for certain reasons, so I extended it for a few days, I hope you're not mad at me...

****************************************

You just have to do the following:
1) Be inspired by the book "Nineteen Eighty-Four" by George Orwell.
2) Write at least one poem about what comes to your mind.
3) Enter it into my contest!
Easy as that...

Only rule: Don't use "chat speak", I can't stand it in poems!

I look forward to your contributions!
Good luck!
Annie

P.S. As an additional "inspiration", you can read the following poems if you like:

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on September 25, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 5 people
  • Final notes:
A huge thank-you to everyone who entered this contest! I didn't think I'd receive so many entries. I'm sorry for extending this contest several times but I just didn't feel up to judging it. I've been ill for weeks and finally starting to really feel better. So in the past weeks, it was really hard for me to concentrate, especially on reading, so I didn't manage to finish this contest earlier.
If you haven't received a comment from me yet, please leave your poems in the contest and I'll comment on them eventually.

    WINNERS:
    1) A people's Anthem, Thou Art.
    2) Dream
    3) United We .............

    HM:
    - Cityscape
    - What Our Future Holds (1984)
    - Thought Police
    - Empty Suits, Toothy Smiles
    - Freedom in Peril

The imaginary plastic trophy and one point will be awarded to Edna Sweetlove for her poem ~Mdccclxxxix~ which I liked very much. If this contest hadn't been about 1984, she would have received much more than that.

Animal Farm is good too, but 1984 totally beats it. In fact, I think 1984 is the best dystopian book there is.

Hmm, mayyyybe... I haven't really been inspired a lot lately... as you can see by the fact that I haven't written a poem in like a year^^
But if I do get some sort of muse action, I'll enter it

    1984 is right now ...

It's been Bush's handbook for governing for 8 years now. Great idea for a contest in any case.
