POETS SURVIVOR- Round Five, B

Free Verse for Round 5 may be entered here.

This contest is for the following poets only.

Peteskid
Mallig
Everwind Rising
chugglepuff

REQUIREMENT REMINDER:
You will also be responsible for writing a free verse poem. You guys are all free verse champs, so we can’t let you just skim on by, right? Right!

The catch is this: Your free verse poem must tell the SAME STORY as your villanelle. It cannot have regular end rhyme, nor repeated refrains as in the villanelle. Also, you may not use the same lines and phrases. OBVIOUSLY you will borrow many of the same words and ideas/theme, etc., but this poem will look and feel completely different than the villanelle. It will flow like spoken language with a wonderful natural rhythm and the lyrical quality that marks excellent free verse.

To that end, we ask that you include INTERNAL RHYMING, assonance and consonance. When you use these devices, be sure that they add something to the poem, are not overstated, or included just for the device’s sake. Also, include IMAGERY that is beneficial to your theme.

Judging Rubric:

FREEVERSE

/5 Understandability
/5 Originality
/5 Mirrors the story of the villanelle
/5 Written as spoken language
/5 Internal Rhyming used, and beneficially
/5 Assonance/Consonance, used and beneficially
/5 Imagery used skillfully/beneficially
/5 Emotion/Impact/General appeal
/5 Line breaks done beneficially
/5 Grammar and Punctuation

/50 Total

DUE DATE: FRIDAY, AUGUST 8

One poet WILL be eliminated based on the TOTAL points for the villanelle and freeverse writes. It is possible to win a trophy in one of the contests and still be eliminated.
