FLOWER POWER!!

Hyacinths for the Soul

I went a-marketing today,
My pantry shelves to fill,
But I came home, I grieve to say,
With pots of daffodil.

I meant to spend my pennies there
For vegetables and meat---
But, oh, the flower shops were so fair
And smelled so fresh and sweet!

I stood and weighed a posy's charms
Against a lettuce head;
And then I filled my hungry arms
With hyacinths instead.

My house is full of perfumed bloom,
But, ah, I feel a sinner!
My family, in deepest gloom,
Ate bread and milk for dinner!

~ Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, 1927

      Another Emerson quote

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Conservatism makes no poetry, breathes no prayer, has no invention; it is all memory. Reform has no gratitude, no prudence, no husbandry. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
