I know some poets here on AP that feel as I do...Writing poetry is like breathing, It is something you must do. It is in your blood and when I have writer's block, I feel I have come down with something dreadful...Some would think it sounds a little crazy when I explain that I feel that if I don't write something, I will just about explode....I can't breathe
but some of you understand
So, If you love being a poet,
I hope this quote inspires you
"A poet looks at the world the way a man looks at a woman."
~Wallace Stevens, Opus Posthumous, 1957
any style/form
no limit on length
use spell check
I am looking for amazing use of poetic device such as imagery, metaphor and alliteration...If you rhyme, do it well...
What I do look for above all, is emotion
If you have it all, it gets you gold...
Have fun
Lynda

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on July 22, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 150, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 4 people
- Final notes: This one was so very difficult to judge!
There were many wonderful entries and If I could, I would give every entrant a trophy...The quality was amazing!
I did choose the 7 finalists which touched me the most while in keeping with the prompt and best use of poetic devices...
Narrowing those 7 down to choose the 3 finalists was really difficult and if ties were allowed I would call one....
Until next time...
Lynda

Please don't explode, unless it's on paper with ink.

I too have a feeling of something building and random words run through my mind, almost like searching for a code and when it's ready to come out...I can't type fast enough. I like this contest...gonna let those words bounce round a bit...lol
peace and hugs

My favorite is from Nicamor Parra's "Letters from a Poet asleep in his chair"
"The poets job is this
To improve upon the blank page.
I doubt if it is possible. "
It speaks to the desire, the demand, and the feeling of reaching for what is so often beyond reach.
I will see what I can do.
Love, Tom B. -
