This contest is to bring awareness to the plight of the elderly, how they are lonely, forgotten, ignored, cast away and mistreated.
To see some examples of what I like, look at my list Series~Elderly. You do not need to comment, it won’t help you win, just view them FYI.
http://allpoetry.com/list/55897-Series---Elderly
I want to be able to reprint the entries for a book to be distributed, free of charge, to rest homes, convalescent hospitals etc. for visitors, guests and clients to read.
You must give permission for this in you’re AN along with your AP name, if not, DQ my rules. Sorry
RULES:
Pre-writes accepted as long as they match the subject, if not DQ and removed from contest, without warning to make room for one that does - SORRY.
No erotica, dirty pretty, sex, religion, sTicKY cAps, text talk, killing, self harm etc. and keep swearing to a minimum. Remember, this is for the elderly, if you wouldn’t give it to your Grandmother, don’t enter it.
Brevity please, I won’t read a novel and neither will they.
One entry per poet, fresh or pre-write, your choice.
Remember this will be read by the elderly, so use good judgment with fonts, backgrounds and language.
No bashing of any kind. Dissatisfaction with the present status and treatment of the elderly is OK!!
Do not refer to a person or place specifically, use terms in general. I do not want to hear Uncle Joe in XYZ rest home didn’t get his diaper changed.
Write your entry in some type or form of poetry to keep it interesting to the reader.
Spell check, credit all photo and art work source.
My decisions are based solely on my likes for this contest and not in any way a judgment on your poem. I am not qualified to judge beyond that.
This is my first contest and I cannot type, so I will comment and judge as quickly as I can, please be patient.
If this contest goes well, I will hold another just like it, so I don’t have to type this again, hunt and peck.
Have fun and remember, be nice to your children for some day, they will decide which rest home to put you in.
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on July 24
- Rewards: Gold: 600, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 16 people
- Final notes: WOW!!! This was very hard to judge.
There are so many of you that deserve Gold, but in the end I had to go with those that brought out the most emotion in me for the contest.
I added Honorable Mentions to include everyone because you all did such a wonderful job. The HMs are not in any particular order.
I did not make long comments on your work as I cannot type.
I am very happy with the turnout for this, my first contest, and hope you will all enter my next one as well.
Congratulations to you all and will the winner of the Gold please send me the link to the PIF contest when you hold it.
Thank You
Don
