This photo is from the 1968 Olympics, the 60's were the years MLK and JFK died and the decade race riots and protests over freedom and war ran riot in the streets.
This one single photo spoke for thousands of people. The one white athlete was Peter Norman in second place. He was to be forever tainted with civil rights and protest and was consequently left out of the Munich games. He indeed felt this one act of bravery and freedom of spirit caused his athletic career to end prematurely.
The one thing he did not give up was his friendship with the two American athletes that he stood on the dais with.
That proved to last a lifetime and indeed they carried Peter Norman's coffin from the church when he died in 2006.

Aww thanks hun, they have just released a documentary on Peter Norman and that picture, it premiers in Sydney and Melbourne soon. I though it appropriate. Hope to see yours in here too!

Well being born in '68 I have no recollection of this whatsoever but am all for equal rights and harmonious congruity.

I remember those days very vividly..and I want to do my best to put something in the contest that shows my support of my black brothers and sisters..God bless them!
