Quote Inspiration II.

Hello, all.  This will be my second quote-inspired contest.  Don't let me down!

Rules

- NO rhyme.  At all.

- Don't use the quote you chose in your poem.

- Please put the quote you chose in your author's notes.

- You may enter as many times as you'd like, but don't use the same quote twice.

Notes

- I can be blunt in my critiques/comments.  If you can't handle it, don't enter.

- Points will rise, depending on entries.

- I will comment on every poem.

- Your entry can be any genre you want, as long as it has something to do with the quote.

- You will be disqualified if you don't follow the rules.

Okay!  Now that we got that over with, here are the quotes.

"Empty, I echo to the least footfall,

Museum without statues, grand with pillars, porticoes, rotundas.

In my courtyard a fountain leaps and sinks back into itself,

Nun-hearted and blind to the world. Marble lilies

Exhale their pallor like scent."

         - from poem 'Barren Woman' by Sylvia Plath

"Reality untouchable, transparent, invisible to our fixed, restricted fields of vision

Existence taken for granted, absolute. Possessed, owned, controlled

by the common sense-infected rational gaze

Onward forever we walk among the ignorant.

Never stray from the common lines"

          - from song 'Rational Gaze' by Meshuggah

"There are no eyes here

In this valley of dying stars

In this hollow valley

This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms"

          - from poem 'The Hollow Men' by T. S. Eliot

"Low I kneel, with heart submission,

see, like ashes, my contrition;

help me in my last condition."

          - from hymn 'Dies Irae' by Thomas of Celano

"She's addicted to nicotine patches

She's afraid of the light in the dark

6:58 are you sure where my spark is

Here

She's convinced she could hold back a glacier

(between cotton balls and xylophones)

but she couldn't keep baby alive

(I'm getting old)

doubting if there's a woman in there somewhere

Here"

          - from song 'Spark' by Tori Amos

"Life is only a vision, a dream. Nothing exists, save empty space, and you; and you, are but a thought."

          - from movie 'The Adventures of Mark Twain'

"Asphyxiate on words I would say.

I'm drawn to a blackened sky as I turn blue.

There are no flowers, no, not this time."

          - from song 'This Time Imperfect' by A.F.I.

"My landscape is a hand with no lines,

The roads bunched to a knot,

The knot myself"

          - from poem 'Childless Woman' by Sylvia Plath

"Mamma said life awaits

like a kidney stone

it's just a broken heart son

this pain will pass away"

          - from song 'Mamma Sed' by Puscifer

"In this secret way

He knew you first

And from those lips, a seed

Your mouth dropped open

Darkness fell out

Kept close in skin

Kept close in blood

And in he was

And from those lips, a seed

This is the gift he received

Twisted roots kept warm

Rape she was and ready for the death"

          - song 'The Other' by Isis

"I come down like a bloody rain cuts up flesh sky,

A pulse beating under

Meat petals bloom in a bone garden

Ain't no god, no ghost gonna save you now"

          - from song 'Hall of Mirrors' by The Distillers

"Underneath the bridge

The tarp has sprung a leak

And the animals I've trapped

Have all become my pets

And I'm living off of grass

And the drippings from my ceiling

It's okay to eat fish

'Cause they don't have any feelings"

          - from song 'Something in the Way' by Nirvana

"What blinds us, or what makes historical progress very difficult, is our lack of awareness of our ignorance. And [I think] that beliefs should be put aside, and that a psychedelic society would abandon belief systems [in favor of] direct experience and this is, I think much, of the problem of the modern dilemma, is that direct experience has been discounted and in its place all kind of belief systems have been erected... If you believe something, you're automatically precluded from believing in the opposite, which means that a degree of your human freedom has been forfeited in the act of this belief."

          - from speech 'Psychedelic Society' by Terence McKenna

"Rape is the only crime in which the victim becomes the accused."
          - Freda Adler

"Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I live, I will kill you. If I die you, are forgiven. Such is the rule of honor."
          - from song 'Omerta' by Lamb of God
