Quickie 4th of July - Two EASY Options

Background behind the contest: At my work we are celebrating the 4th of July by each team coming up with a poster in the 4th of July theme. We are putting phrases, sentences, and pictures onto the board. I am a competitive kind of guy at work and would love some ideas to put on there.

Theme: What does America mean to me?

Options:

  1. Write me a patriotic poem with the same theme as above.
  2. Write me a single sentence as to something great about America.

Rules:

  1. 2 Entries per person -  you may enter a poem and a setence, or either/or. (You don't have enter both, lol.)
  2. Anti-American poems will result in your poem being deleted from the contest and you ending up on my ignore list. Don't waste my time. :)
  3. Prewrites are not allowed, but feel free to rewrite a poem or post a sentence you came up with before. Copy and pasting prewrites in as a new poem will result in your poem getting removed from the contest. You may REWRITE, but not just copy and paste.

---------------------

  • Creativity Counts
  • I like rhyming poems, but I can be impressed by free verse.
  • I don't like to read super long poems.
  • Impress me.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on July 5, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 300
  • Final notes:
I have to say I'm pretty disgusted that I only got 6 entries when all I was asking for was a single sentence. (Not saying that about any of the entrants, hehe, just saying about the other poets on AllPoetry). Ah well, the board at work came out looking pretty sweet, though I forgot to print out any poems for it. Thank you very much for all the entries, even though I did wish for more. Keep on penning, dear poets!
