Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on July 15
  • Rewards: Gold: 600, Silver: 300, Bronze: 200, Honorable mention: 1 people
  • Final notes:
First, thank you to everyone who entered. Congratulations to "The Painting Poet" and the other winners, we enjoyed all the entries...and all the colors.

I would like to mention two special entries, Sepia Brown by Peteskid and Of Colors and Memories by Bozoloper. These two were excellent poems, each worthy of the gold, but neither seemed to fit the contest request of choosing just one color. But still we wanted each author to know that all three judges were equally impressed with these two poems, and our not choosing them for trophies was simply due to the rules, not due to the quality.

Ok, it's done. Does anyone read these comments?

  • hehe I wrote a poem incorporating all the colours of the rainbow! It was fun to do.
    I find colours very expressive.

Cool. If you and M-C2000 read all the entries I can just sit back and do nothing.

  • Orange and The Green

By the Irish Rovers (among others)

Oh, it is the biggest mix-up that you have ever seen.
My father, he was Orange and me mother, she was green.
My father was an Ulster man, proud Protestant was he.
My mother was a Catholic girl, from county Cork was she.
They were married in two churches, lived happily enough,
Until the day that I was born and things got rather tough.
Baptized by Father Riley, I was rushed away by car,
To be made a little Orangeman, my father's shining star.
I was christened "David Anthony," but still, inspite of that,
To me father, I was William, while my mother called me Pat.
With Mother every Sunday, to Mass I'd proudly stroll.
Then after that, the Orange lodge would try to save my soul.
For both sides tried to claim me, but i was smart because
I'd play the flute or play the harp, depending where I was.
Now when I'd sing those rebel songs, much to me mother's joy,
Me father would jump up and say, "Look here would you me boy.
That's quite enough of that lot", he'd then toss me a coin
And he'd have me sing the Orange Flute or the Heros of The Boyne
One day me Ma's relations came round to visit me.
Just as my father's kinfolk were all sitting down to tea.
We tried to smooth things over, but they all began to fight.
And me, being strictly neutral, I bashed everyone in sight.
My parents never could agree about my type of school.
My learning was all done at home, that's why I'm such a fool.
They've both passed on, God rest 'em, but left me caught between
That awful color problem of the Orange and the Green.

Quite fascinating this photo art,the eye finds unusual hues and shapes defined by the colors, I think this will be quite an inspiration for the writers, many ways to use this well...very nice...PK

Im color blind lol I doubt I could write anything interesting outside of black and white...which would probably look better on a little kitten or puppy dog wagging their tails

Ah, you don't need to see anything to imagine how they are. If you touch a leaf (green), or an apple (red) or the hair of your brunette girl friend (brown or black) what they make you feel or think of?
  • lol I think most people picked blue
    • From an artist's view the blue seems to be rising from the picture and therefore dominates leaving the other colours in the background. I guess that is directing the eye and the mind to blue.
