~Picture credit - Ewanecka at deviantart.com. Amazing. There are many more in this series.
This is how it works:
1. Find something that inspires an emotion from the quotes below
2. Copy and paste it in your author notes
3. Write me a brilliant poem
The names of the poems are links to the full version if you wish to read them, except for 'The Courage of Shutting Up' and 'A Secret'.
The conditions:
Points will raise while judging.
If you don't like Sylvia Plath, then please don't leave derogatory comments here. Thanks
Mention the quote you use.
Please don't make it too long. Unless it's very very effective. Not because long poetry isn't good - I just have a very short attention span.
This is my birthday present to myself, so please don't enter just for the sake of entering.
Enjoy.
The quotes:
"But how about the eyes, they eyes, they eyes?
Mirrors can kill and talk, they are terrible rooms
In which a torture goes on one can only watch.
The face that lived in this mirror is the face of a dead man."
-The Courage of Shutting Up
♥
"A smile fell in the grass.
Irretrievable!
And how will your night dances
Lose themselves. In mathematics?"
-The Night Dances
♥
"O God, I am not like you
In your vacuous black,
Starts stuck all over, bright stupid confetti.
Etenity bores me.
I never wanted it."
-Years

"It is a heart,
This holocaust I walk in,
O golden child the world will kill and eat."
-Mary's Song

"Against virgin prayer
This sorceress sets mirrors enough
To distract beauty's thought"
-Vanity Fair
♥
"It would be better if they were alive, and that's what they were.
But they are dead, and their mother near-dead with distraction,
And they stupidly stare, and do not speak of her."
-Stillborn
♥
"The future is a gray seagull
Tattling in its cat-voice of departure, departure.
Age and terror, like nurses, attend her,
And a drowned man, complaining of the great cold,
Crawls up out of the sea."
-A Life

"Daddy, I have had to kill you.
You died before I had time---
Marble-heavy, a bag full of God,
Ghastly statue with one gray toe
Big as a Frisco seal"
-Daddy

"You stumble out.
Dwarf baby,
The knife in your back.
'I feel weak.'
The secret is out."

"Whose side are they on?
O my
Homonculous, I am ill.
I have taken a pill to kill
The thin
Papery feeling."
-Cut

"The child's cry
Melts in the wall
And I
Am the arrow
The dew that flies
Suicidal, at one with the drive
Into the red
Eye, the cauldron of the morning."

"We have only come to look. You are too new
To want the world in a glass hat."
-New Year on Dartmoor

"It is more natural to me, lying down.
Then the sky and I are in open conversation,
And I shall be useful when I lie down finally:
Then the trees may touch me for once, and the flowers have time for me."

"I made a fire; being tired
Of the white fists of old
Letters and their death rattle
When I came too close to the wastebasket
What did they know that I didn't?"

"Perfection is terrible, it cannot have children.
Cold as snow breath, it tamps the womb
Where the yew trees blow like hydras,
The tree of life and the tree of life
Unloosing their moons, month after month, to no purpose."

People or stars
Regard me sadly, I disappoint them."

"The moon, also, is merciless: she would drag me
Cruelly, being barren.
Her radiance scathes me. Or perhaps I have caught her.
I let her go. I let her go
Diminished and flat, as after radical surgery.
How your bad dreams possess and endow me."

Thank you! I wanted to include more, but didn't want to make it a bit overwhelming. I have her Collected Poetry anthology, everything she's written - but it belongs to the library. I have to give it back in two days

Ryan Adam's has a lovely voice! This is actually the first of his songs I've heard, and I fell in love with it instantly.
Thanks for the comment! Look forward to your entry, hopefully

That is a GREAT song! I love it. But it's Bryan Adams who sings that one... this one is Ryan Adams. Two different people, but with annoyingly similar names. It took me a while to figure it out
