Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on July 12, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 22 people
- Final notes: Through this contest I've been moved by your passion. As much as I would like to award every entry a trophy, I simply can not.
Thanks to dictionary.com I'd like to provide the following defination:
"pas·sion Audio Help /ˈpæʃən/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[pash-uhn] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate.
2. strong amorous feeling or desire; love; ardor.
3. strong sexual desire; lust.
4. an instance or experience of strong love or sexual desire.
5. a person toward whom one feels strong love or sexual desire.
6. a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything: a passion for music.
7. the object of such a fondness or desire: Accuracy became a passion with him.
8. an outburst of strong emotion or feeling: He suddenly broke into a passion of bitter words.
9. violent anger.
10. the state of being acted upon or affected by something external, esp. something alien to one's nature or one's customary behavior (contrasted with action). "
The reasoning behind this -- is because it was the defination and how you penned your passion that helped me make my decisions on the finalist.
Gold: Eighty Eight Keys - Wonderfully written poem --
Silver: What Burns inside - an intimate form of love.
Bronze: Splendor - also an intimate form of love.
The top 5 entries in the finalist column are the only ones with any sense of order; the remaining finalist are in a random order.
[Though, I had no doubt on the Gold winner -- the Silver and Bronze was changed several times before coming to a final decision. Ultimately it came down to the use of 'passion' and how it was conveyed within those top 5 entries.]
***I would also like to give a special mention***
to the poem "Words". While reading this poets work then reaching the comments section I learned he/she is 12 and under.
I hope you will check it out -- pretty profound for a little kid. (okay pre-teen).
*****************************************
Finally: A Very special Thank you to you all, I hope for the most part you enjoyed the contest, and will enter again, in future contests.
