Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on August 13, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 3000, Silver: 2000, Bronze: 1000, Honorable mention: 2 people
- Final notes: GOLD: "Demons, merely words".
As Blue Rew has it:
This poem is eloquent in its unraveling of featurettes of contrast treated indifferently by time and grace. Exposure to the glimpses of cast-off greatness and remnants of dreams, now left to to interpretation in their fading.
I feel this through and through and it claims one in the reading.

SILVER: "Divinig the Sky" (inspired by the Fire Rainbow)
Peter has said of this poem:
This poem is a deft and elegant write which seems to lay out thoughts of "perhaps" like fishing lines for unwary fish! Then, snap! The final line hooks the fish.
It is a beautiful poem, full of soft touches that hide techniques of alliteration and line spacing. These become clear as they guide the breath as the poem is recited.
Phrases such as 'imprudent adventurer' and 'quixotic juxtaposition' roll from the tongue with consummate ease.
The last line, in my opinion, is simply a stunner!

BRONZE: "Brewing up" ( a translation )
Richard has had this to say:
Semenko had a thirst for modern ideas in pooetry at a time in the Ukraine when this attitude and art ran against traditional, cultural norms.
It appears to me to be a poem daring to present a Ukrainian dream in conflict with Russian conservatism in the Arts.
There is a searching in this poem for knowledge and the power of words in poetry where Semenko could, in this author's words, "grasp the mysteries together".
There is the pursuit of the essence of modern writing and the instigationb of modern thought through poetry. Wonderfully expressed in translation.

1st Honorable Mention: "Flowing ...".
Ten Thousand Cicadas has said:
I am instantly reminded of scripture: "deep calls to deep".
There is a sense of knowing in these lines; an identification with something under the surface ~ rhythm, music, a sense of home ~
perhaps, soul.
The final stages of the poem are emotionally stirring with the reaching and pouring.
Truly remarkable poem in its experiential presentation.
Technically, you used enjambment EFFECTIVELY. The reader has only to glance at the final two stanzas. You achieved an immediate sdense of expectation.
The emptiness saddened. Sense of time and place were real. Thank you.

2nd Honorable Mention: "Seduced by ... Poetry".
Richard has had this to say:
I rolled through this poem as it were. There is an indescribable perplexity of the brouhaha of thoughts in alliteration and vivid language. You have captured the deep essence of a desperate mood in your poetry.
From a paradox of "recollections of the future" to the personification of love as Love, there is a touch of brilliance here.
You took me on a journey of words and ideas and you told me of an inner torment and also joy of being a poet.

Lyndon:
I thank all entrants in the anthology of this contest. I think it is not an overstatement to say that all poems could win Gold trophies in MANY lesser contests at Allpoettry. Congratulations to writers who have pointed the way to this mere poetaster. lol.
