The Refuge of Poetry in Times of Great Sorrow

Welcome fellow poets. I wish to hold this contest in honour of a dear friend, Dolores (Dode) Miller. I miss her dearly, as do many others. I was hoping that this contest could receive writes of nature, love, loss, inspiration, spirituality, grief, repose, beauty, hope, etc. Pre-writes are welcome, as well as fresh.

I would like very much to send winning writes, copywrites included, to the family in mourning, in particular, to her children, to give them some comfort. It would mean so much; a great and deeply appreciated gift, the gift of heartfelt poetry. I believe poetry to be one of the greatest forms of healing and hope…especially in times of great sorrow and grief, poetry can be a great refuge.

Thank you so much!!! I look forward to all your wonderful and glorious writes. There are no rules other than a requirement of ardent, heartfelt poetry. Also, if you do not wish to have your poem sent, please indicate in author's box, and I will refrain from sending the poem. I thank you all, again!

(If you long to know a bit about Dode, the following paragraph is a bit of a tribute to her.)

Dolores was a great and loving friend to my mother, who also left this earth a little over a year ago. Dolores had a tender heart and great love for nature and people. She had a true innocence to her. Not an unkind word about anyone could ever pass her lips. She took in many homeless cats (I loved to play with them as a child) and they were with her when she departed. One of her favorite pastimes was sitting in her living room, looking out the window at the passersby and the birds and squirrels. Sometimes she’d spend time with her next-door neighbor, Mavis. Mavis, though acerbic and a bit rough around the edges, was very touched by her kind and loving friend. Dode also enjoyed knitting unique and beautiful articles in which she always gave away or donated. Giving was also one of her favorite things to do. She was an inspiration to me and to my mum and dad. She had a rich and beautiful history with my mum. She loved my mum from the time my mum was a wee one. Great grief came over her when my mum left the world prematurely, but now, I know their resounding laughter is accenting some quaint corner of heaven.
