Our imaginary friend Beaumont, in a vitriolic moment, suggested that no one could write a decent Cinquain. We told him he was insane...he reminded us that we were talking to an imaginary person...

A Bad example:

Beaumont
says caustically
no one writes good Cinquains
help us prove that Beaumont is wrong
write one

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on June 21, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 351, Silver: 102, Bronze: 101, Honorable mention: 9 people
  • Final notes:
    Gold: Future by Peteskid.
I like that the author uses the metaphor of Mars to portray hope, the last line seemed to sum up the poem, and the wording and language, I thought, was facile and lended to the symbolism. I also like that he came back and fixed this cinquain.

    Silver: Undulation by Gaze
I thought the imagery was the key to this cinquain, the ocean, the reflections, rippling waving, and the word, "nuance" lends to that mental image. For me it is a tractile word, with any number of variations in meaning. It's not so much about the ocean's mystery but life's. The symbolism worked well.

Save us! by Long Road Home
No metaphors or symbolism here, just witty humor that means more to the host and those who know him/me. I really should have adhered to the Miranda Rights and not say anything more for my words can be used against me. It's a shocking cinquain or horror. But it's not just humor, it's also deftly written, which adds to its being more than just a silly poem.

Thank you everyone who entered the contest, it was fun and Beaumont. my

    Beaumont dons a disguise
    and silently slips away,
    his bravado diminished
    by the remarkable cinquains
    proving him wrong.
Yem, on the other hand, or foot,
jumps in delight at the quality
    of the entries Beaumont provoked.

Ole Beaumont is the provocateur, sneaking in under a disguise, inciting people to prove him wrong. He's a little evil, lighting matches under their weaknesses, knowing they'll want to prove him wrong. So far, so good.

    Beaumont was SO RIGHT...

Ms Crapsey has a great deal to answer for!

Ah Vera, Beaumont is a big bag of wind and doesn't take himself too seriously, and we take little stock in anything he says...we as in me, me as in him, if that makes any sense at all.

I take it you have reservations either on the form or on the ability of those here to execute it...or maybe both. I assure you no one is being paid for their work here in this contest and it's more about enjoyment than perfecting a form. I see no reason why writing poetry should be limited to the elite few, if elite they are.

Oops, my end of final comment got cut off by my poor copy and paste abilities. Beaumont just admitted that he was wrong, that is all.

    Thank you Yem-
I remember reading cinquains by talented AP writers like Nicolette and Mari and how they seemed to do so much...tell a story, paint a flower on the wall...and then give a message too..so much skill and art... so I thought i would try...thanks for the Honor and most for the kind and generous words...PK
