Piccolo Cento
This contest is for poets age 17 and younger. Each entry must be TEN LINES in Cento form.
A Cento is a poem made by taking lines from other poems. The lines are put into a new poem to make new or different ideas.
In this contest you may use the following links to authors found in the Old Poetry site.
You may use one line from any poem by these writers.
However, you MUST use one line from EACH of the five poems in the MUST USE section below; section two.
So the poem you write will have one line from each of the five MUST USE poems, and one line from any five other poems of any of the authors for a total of ten lines.
You can use a line from any of the poems by:

How to write the Cento:
find a line from a poem that you wish to add to your Cento, copy the line and paste it into a word document. Then copy the Link from the address bar so that you will have a line and a link together. Once you have gotten all of the lines and arranged them into your Cento, paste the links into your author notes in the order that the line appears in the poem.
You may write on any theme, and in any style, each line used must have a note of the poem from which it was taken, see the example link below for an idea of how it might look.
an example of the Cento style:

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on June 30
- Rewards: Gold: 1060
- Final notes: The contest Piccolo Cento has ended and while three brave young writers started, as far as I know, only one completed the task, and it was done with excellence. I expect this Cento would have won a medal in many AP contests not just one limited to young writers.
The more difficult thing to me is to achieve expression and a seamless reading of a Cento despite the patching together of verses, and here it was done so very well. A wonderful flow and narration here, the theme was well developed and easily understood; and there was art in the composition.
Excellent work…well deserving of the Gold, and the extra points too.
The selection Is:

the 5 required lines and then 1 more, so 6 lines total or what? -

My mistake, the idea is to have a ten line poem, so five must use poems and then five others that you pick, ten line poem is the result...PK

What an amazing idea. The perfect way to get our young ones to read exceptional poetry and practice using it. Also the synthesis is a great mental exercise. Love this. I am off to copy this link to a few of my little buddies.

they will have to copy and paste, set up the line and link in the poem, then move the link to authors notes, same order as the lines...so computer skills in word programs a little too... thanks...PK

Looks fine, good choice of authors here.
I know some young writers, will send them the link to this contest.
Hope they do better reads than adults do on OP.
