Can you remember when...

FOR WOMEN ONLY

Can you remember when your mother told you about the facts of life otherwise known as the birds and the bees? Before that, you might have thought the stork was responsible or maybe the doctor brought you in his little black bag. Maybe you knew you came out of your mommy's tummy or you might have thought Mom and Dad found you in the cabbage patch.

Well, Mom or somebody told you the truth. Or maybe your mom was really embarrassed and you came away from the Talk not much the wiser. Maybe someone else told you the facts of life and you ended up with a lot of misconceptions, so to speak.

I must have been 10 or so and reading some women's magazines my mother had acquired from somewhere and there were lots of ads for Tampax. I asked my mom what "time of the month" meant and she told me something, I can't remember what. Guess she figured if I could ask those kind of questions I could figure the whole thing out by myself.

Somewhat later, she tried to give my sister the Talk, something to do with "seeds". My sister tuned the whole thing out and was shocked and scared when she got her period and knew nothing. I can understand my mother's viewpoint; she grew up in England in the 30s and her prudish mother told her nothing at all.

That's the kinds of detail I want. It could be humourous but doesn't have to be. My usual rules apply -- standard grammar and spelling, 20 - 60 lines, rhyming or free. I will be doing a similar contest for men in the next few days.

I got the idea for this contest from an exchange of messages with Daviscth and she has generously donated the points that have made this possible. Thank you, Daviscth.

Heh, I used to think that from kissing a boy you could get pregnant...haha, that's why I never kissed a boy til I was 13. Well, I think I was around 11 when I understood that something 'down there' was responsible, but the dreadful truth is I only REALLY understood after my ex tried to sexually assault me, as it had to be explained what he was trying to do. It was horrible, but then I learnt even more from another guy, who's 6 years older than me... so I guess I'm saying I learnt in all the wrong ways, that's why if needs be I'll teach my little cousin, in about 4/5 years time (she's 6 now) if needs be, as I want her to learn through someone who can explain and be sensetive about the issues and not scare her, or make her not understand what her body is doing.
