It's all about the Drugs!

So I'm a huge believer in the fact that drugs can ruin someone's life. I've seen it happen before my very eyes. I want you all to speak out to my in rhyme about this subject. I want you to use imagery and describe what drugs can do to someone.

Here are your options:

OPTION #1: Personify a drug. Give it a name and an identity. If you need an example, I did a couple of poems like this. Here are links to them:
Miss MaryJane: http://allpoetry.com/poem/4303253
Charlie: http://allpoetry.com/poem/2828104

OPTION #2: Wordbank. You must use at least ten of the following words. If you choose this option, make sure you put the words you used in your author's notes:

fire
dope
pills
blow
ecstacy
tripping
high
crash
addicted/addiction
morphine
acid
oxycotten
weed
coke
purple
green
chronic
bud
hydro
caine
THC
blaze
grass
reefer
spliff
joint
zoot
bifter
cigarette
skiing

If you don't know what some of those mean, go to www.urbandictionary.com

OPTION #3: Give me a story in poem-form about an addiction to drugs and how they become all that matters to the victim.

Okay there's your three options.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING OR ELSE!

Here's the Rules/Things you should know:

1. Nothing over 60 lines please.
2. Keep it in poem form... no short stories.
3. NoNe Of ThIs
4. I will comment on all of your entries
5. No freeverse this time, sorry
6. PLEASE PUT YOUR OPTION OF CHOICE IN THE AUTHOR'S NOTES!
7. One entry per person this time.
8. I am a harsh judge, so don't enter unless you want to hear my honest opinion.
9. I really like metaphors and imagery.

Okay that's it. Have fun writing!

  • \What about those of us who know, as strongly as you know your side of it, that drugs can save lives, and that no drug has ever "destroyed" a life (but rather people have destroyed their own lives with the abuse of drugs)? Is our perspective not wanted?

heh, I like your perspective best I think, though it may seem a little jaded.
      • Well, see, I'm not just talking about societally approved drugs. I mean all drugs, the exact same drugs people usually blame for "ruining lives". A drug is an inanimate object. It cannot ruin anything. People can, however, abuse it, and hence ruin themselves. I'm sick of people blaming the object for their own behavior, is all. You may say that drugs are 'addictive' and 'dangerous' -- yet, all the more reason to treat them with care and respect. If everyone knows drugs are addictive and dangerous, and yet, knowing this, they proceed to act otherwise, how exactly are they not at fault for their situation?

By contrast, those of us who do treat drugs with respect and care, and who therefore reap tremendous benefits from association with drugs rather than having our lives ruined, are getting it in the neck because 99% of people cannot distinguish between drug use and drug abuse anymore. Most people wouldn't even think of them as separate concepts.

But I'll never get an opportunity to write that story/perspective for a contest. No one wants to hear that. They just want to have their own negative experiences reinforced.

This is such a valid subject and you invite participants with an important message. I posted a poem on this theme yesterday - you may be interested to read it: http://allpoetry.com/poem/4521251. To intoothandclaw, I think you're off the point. What you say clearly applies to a more mature adult who really does choose his or her course, but unfortunately way too many immature minds and bodies are dabbling, if not dribbling, with some serious crap these days. I knew a 16 year old kid who was hooked on crack. He was heavily into crime to support his habit and he told me that his body did not want work without the smokey rush from his precious rocks. He knew he was in a ruinous state and by the age of 17 he had hung himself. If he had begun dabbling a little later in life then I wouldn't give much of a hoot. If you want to buy sonme crack, try asking a 15 year old outside the schoolgates - sorted.
