THE PROMPT:
I was reading a poem, and I began to doubt its plausibility. Suddenly, I got an idea for a prompt. I want you to lie to me. Make up a completely fake story that does not relate to you at all and go with it. Be committed. Put emotion into it. Trick me into thinking that you're telling the truth.
For this contest, you are not merely adopting a persona.... I want you to write a completely outlandish fib.
I'm not looking for little lies (like for example: "I said my cat's name was Baxter, but it was really Fluffy... wow I so fooled you). I want deep, controversial lies.
Attempt big, farfetched poems. If you pull-off a more outrageous lie, you will score higher.
Poets should be able to express a wide range of emotions. Hopefully, this prompt will challenge you to write something new. If your life has always been horrible, talk about how perfect it is. But if you think your life is awesome, try penning a poem that is dark and sinister.
Considering the subject matter of this contest, be very careful with your submissions. Try not to lie about something that will offend or upset someone else.
Prewrites are currently NOT being accepted. If you have previously lied in a poem, shame on you. Naughty naughty... tsk tsk!
THE REQUIREMENTS:
- Cite your lie in your "Author's Notes"
- Please use Spellcheck
- No Chat Lingo or Stickycaps
- This is an Anonymous Contest
- I'm not against profanity, but if it makes you look like an idiot, I'll be sure to let you know.

- I don't want you in this contest! (that was an example of a lie)
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on June 17, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 250, Bronze: 125, Honorable mention: 2 people
- Final notes: I hate to say this, but I was very disappointed with all of the entries. They were laughably bad. No one understood the prompt's concept, and all of the poems sounded horribly fake. None of your entries should have received trophies...
Ha! Did I fool you? Sorry, being as this contest is called "Lie to Me," I thought I'd get in one more set of lies. I didn't mean any of that stuff above. I know... I'm a jerk.
Truthfully, I was very pleased with the entries. This was a difficult contest to judge...
Gold, Silver, and Bronze went to poets that described vivid imagery and not only talked about their lies, but actually provided believable examples.
Honorable Mention went to two poems that I felt attacked the prompt with creative/unique approaches.
Congratulations to everyone... and yes, I actually do mean it.... no more lies from me... never again will I lie... nope... never... uhh... I'm Spider-man.

Very clever idea...
Pinocchio was a brilliant Disney movie as well, so props for posting a picture of him.
He gets such a bad rap, but I think he was just talking about things he wanted and then pretended they were truth...poor Pinocchio.
