PIF: Prewrites Contest for My Favorites

I won gold in Rich's PIF contest

"To Sing This Earth by kaibab"
with this poem,

"Learning to Breathe"

www.allpoetry.com/poem/4285695

Pay It Forward:

For those on my favorites list only this time. Sorry.

No prompt provided. Read below for guidelines.

Enter your best or favorite prewrite. One.

Left~justified, please. Pictures allowed,

but keep backgrounds simple, please.

It ends when I'm ready to close it, so be swift.

The gold winner will host a contest & send me the link to it

when it's posted to continue the pay it forward cycle.

That's why I'm giving the gold 400 points,

so they'll have something left over for themselves.

This contest is NOT anonymous.

I will know who I'm reading & still remain objective.

Ask entrants in my previous contests.

I take poetry very, very seriously.

It is my life.

Rules:

No rhyme unless you're very, very good at it.

If you write in rhyme, please explain the form you've used.

One entry per person. 40 entries only.

No dark writes.

No cutting, suicide, homicide, anything~cide.

If you know me at all, you already know that.

I read & write too many as it is.

Lift me up, don't bring me down.

Sensual is fine. Pornography is not.

If you don't understand the difference, don't enter.

It would be nice for you to read the other entries,

but it is not a requirement, as that is against site policy.

The contest may be extended,

as my work load has been completely insane lately.
If it is, I'll let you know by posting a note on the contest page.

If you have any questions, please put them in the comment section,

as others may need to know, as well.

You can edit up until the contest closes.

I'll read each piece at least several times.
I'll comment on each one, as time permits.

Thanks for coming by.

Good luck, one & all.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on June 13, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 300, Bronze: 200, Honorable mention: 33 people
  • Final notes:

This is the hardest contest I've had to judge in my four years on AP, for various reasons.

The first reason is due to the incredible quality, the vast scope signified by the plethora of talent upon this single page.

The second reason is because I have some very serious issues going on in my off~screen life right now; among other things, I now have pneumonia & also, quite unexpectedly, found out that I have to move within the next month.

Which means, to my sorrow, that I will have very little time to come online, even if I feel like it. I will be busy working, then trying to pack after work. I will also have to disconnect my phone & internet for an unknown length of time. I will try to check in from work or from the library when & if I can, but...

My gold membership expires on the 21st. If there are any pictures I have used that you've admired, please copy them immediately, with my blessings.

I wrote the following poem a week ago, before I knew what was to come. It holds even more Truth now than when I wrote it, with you, my dear Friends, in mind. I think you deserve to read it first; I will post it after this contest is judged.

These past four years have been an unusual journey for me. You have all been the biggest part of my wonder, my joy, my sorrow, my bizarre humor. I cannot tell you how much it's meant to me, to know you're here. Know this; as much as you've touched me, you touch so many others on a daily basis, unknowing & unknown. Believe it. It is amazing to me, some of the comments I've received from people I don't even know.

I will think of you often & fondly. I will come back when I can. Until then...

    Love,

    Swanee

    A Message to My Friends

    Your whispered words
    have sweetly swayed me
    far beyond

    any sorrowed song
    I may have sung
    in solitude.

    Within your precious presence,
    how could I not know
    of Love's deepest grandeur,

    its furthest flight
    into this moonlit sky
    of infinitely~dreaming eyes?

    How can I tell you?

You move me with your magic
    when I am tender,

    lost in melancholy moments,
    embraced by Memory.

    I catch my breath
    & set it free,

    drifting on wild wings
    where we shall soar together,

    furious & softened
    within this mellowed music,

    this ascending art we weave
    from madness & mercy,

    a torrid tapestry
    of telling Truth...

    ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ *

You know I love you all.

    Be well, Poets & Scribes.

Be gentle with each other & with yourselves.
