Vincent Van Gogh's Art

Please use any of Vincent Van Gogh's paintings as a prompt.
In your author notes, tell me which one it is.
Even better if you also post the picture with the poem.

Here are a couple of links to some of his works:

I WANT:

1. Your psychological view of/ emotional
reaction to the painting.

2. CREATIVITY and UNIQUENESS.

3. Interesting and unusual imagery.

4. Correct spelling and grammar.

5. Any form, but it must have a nice flow.

I DON'T WANT:

* A blow by blow description of the physical painting. I already know his art very well.

You may mention aspects of the painting in the body of your poem as long as it is to help explain your feelings.

Good luck! HAVE FUN.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on June 19, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 600, Bronze: 300, Honorable mention: 4 people
  • Final notes:
All the finalists are placed 1 through 7 because that is how I saw them placing in the contest. I actually gave one more honorable mention because I felt it was warranted.

I could not resist the compelling tone of "Poets and Potato Eaters." I feel that this poem has captured the feelings that are the essence of the painting and also had a true sense of the poet's reaction to the painting.

It was very difficult to decide the silver and bronze. The other poems were all so wonderful in their own ways. Tone and a sense of the artists possible intention were what decided it for me, as well as some valuable help from a poet on AP, Ace-LightWithinMe, whom I sincerely recommend you read.

A note that I must make is that NONE of the poems were unworthy. Some were just a bit better than others or better suited what I had envisioned when I posted the contest.

I encourage all of you to take pride in your entries, which I felt were extremely well thought out and nicely written.

Thank you all so very much for participating in my contest, and I hope that you will enter when I post another contest in the future.

    ~ Joyce

I have used two of Van Gogh's paintings as inspiration for a poem(s). Will bookmark and see if I can write another one.
