I am in the Army, and my Air Defense Artillery unit recently deployed to Korea. We will be here a year, and families were not allowed to come with us.
So, in the spirit of Memorial Day, I'd love it if you all could write poems for us.
First, get to know us a bit. Here is the link to a video I made using pictures I took as we were deploying last week: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fJCZEIFK8AQ
I'm looking for poems of hope and inspiration, poems to help those soldiers who left dear ones behind, poems to ease the stress and frustrations of work. Poems that let us know that what we are doing over here is important to you, poems that tell us we are not over here in vain, not undergoing this separation for no reason. Poems that let us know we are appreciated.
Got it? Good. You can direct the poem to me specifically if you want (or to deepheart, he is also in my unit) or to any soldier you see in the pictures from the video (just in your notes tell me which one caught your eye, and I might be able to pass your poem on to them specifically) or just to a general soldier.
I hope to be able to use these poems to help my battle buddies when the going gets rough over here.
So help me help them!
Please, do not have any:
1.Sticky caps.
2.Erotica/abuse (though how you'd do that with this prompt, I don't know!)
3.Excessive violence
4.Excessive grammar/spelling errors.
Thanks!

I'm trying to keep this contest small, so there are only slots for 20 poems. So in that case, only one entry per poet for now. If closer to closing there are still slots open, then it might become a possibility. Thanks!
