Poet's Choice IV

(not a prompt)

ENTER...a prewrite or new poem

BUT...one that has not won a gold or silver or has been entered over 3 times.

PLEASE...choose well.

DON'T...forget to edit.

USE...spell check.

THIS...is not for the impatient,

FOR...I will not be rushed in judging.

A...comment will be given on each poem.

DUMP...bad attitudes elsewhere, please.

I think I understand why many contests do not except  prewrites...they are drowned in a tsunami of poems that were entered just for the sake of entering.

Although I was well satisfied with the winning entries in my recent prewrite contest, it seemed to me that some of the others just dumped a poem on my doorstep.

Please scrutinize your poem before entering. Edit, edit, edit.

Generally speaking, I will hold my comments until the contest is over.

Although it is totally up to you as to what you enter, generally speaking I'm not that fond of melodrama, smarmy love poems, violence/blood guts, poorly done rhyme. Tired old cliche is also frowned upon.

I'll be honest in my comments, but not mean. I judge from my own point of view, and will give my opinions.  Take them with a grain of salt, I don't claim to be an expert.

Edit your work, take some pride. Don't temp me to DQ.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on June 1
  • Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 500, Bronze: 250
  • Final notes:
I did feel a little dumped on, but the digging through was worth it. There were several I truly enjoyed that didn't make the finals...the top three had the magic this time. Thanks to all and congrats to the winners.

    Gold: providence, by AJ Morelli

    Silver: Perfume River, by ariosto

Bronze: Texture of Darkness, by RedAquarius
