Convince me that "Dead Poets Society" is actually a good movie/book

We're reading "Dead Poets Society" in both English and German class right now, I have only seen some minutes of the movie but I finished the book yesterday.

I must admit I didn't really enjoy it. That's a problem because of all that "creative" stuff we have to do about it... like doing role plays and so on...

So it would be great if anyone could show me the good things and the beauty of the story... Mentioning why you think this is a good book to read at school is also appreciated.
I was looking forward to reading the book but my teachers spoiled all the fun...

Please no erotic stuff...

Please try to use correct grammar and spelling...

Sorry once again for taking so much time to judge this... All the pieces you entered were great - A special thank you to Edna who entered a poem that I enjoyed very much although it had nothing to do with the contest.

It was hard to decide on the winning poems, but here they are:

    1) In The Poets Dream.
    2) Explosion
    3) Oh Captain! My Captain!

I read the book but it was a looooong time ago. Can't read it, or watch the movie, without crying.
    So good but so sad.

I wonder if I'm the only person in the universe who didn't like it... I was also crying in the end... but because the book drove me nuts!

        Oh dear
        Maybe it's a taste thing?
I know there are a lot of movies that I fall asleep in that everyone I know loves and can't understand why it bores me.

My entry has nothing to do with the film. I just thought you'd like it.

Oh I love this book...and the film. I find it so inspiring...but I think it really depends on the mood you are in when you read it. It is not perfect. The ending is a little idealistic yet it always makes me beam in hope. I suppose it depends if you are a 'the cup is half full' or 'the cup is half empty' type of person. It tries to find the right balance between portraying reality and bringing hope to the oppressed. However the latter tips the scales ...so I think I can understand why it might not be everyone's cup of tea. I'm using a lot of metaphors Sorry! Hmmm...I think I will enter now that my muse is finally back!

well, good - do it in English. Problem solved, I'm sure. Ever hear of lost in translation? I'm living it here.

By the way, I like the part - maybe it's only in the movie, where Robin Williams rips out the intro to the poetry manual with its aa-bb-cc rhyme scheme instructions. lol.

          love your picture...

I liked the ending of the book, which was cut from the movie because it was too long or whatever the reason was...
