About a year ago, I began realizing my parents' marriage was going to end. I knew they would get a divorce, I was unaware, however, of when it would become official. Two days ago, my mother and father told me that they were indeed getting a divorce. It's not that they don't love each other, they just are two completely different people wanting completely different things. And it's been making me depressed lately because A. For my entire life I was the only kid who had parents who didn't have problems (or were even still together) and B. My father and I just became really close and my mother and I are just now beginning to make amends. I'm beginning to lose faith in marriage as a person who is already terrified of such commitment.
Tonight, all I ask is this: Make me believe in love. Be descriptive, imaginative, beautiful. I am not asking for erotic material. If I see any erotic poems you WILL be disqualified. Or if you can't make me believe in love, at least tell me it will be okay and that it isn't as bad as it seems.
I do have a few rules:
1. No erotica
2. Lovely spelling please
3. Proper grammar is a bonus
4. Give me your best!
Oh I do have a few things that will give you brownie points. For the record, I am a bisexual girl in a relationship with another female. I have not told my parents and some of you might understand how that feels. If you could tell me how to fall back in love with love in something that relates to my relationship, it will be nicer for you. Another thing, I love metaphors. Give me an analogy to die for, please! I can't get enough of them. I like to think about what I'm reading.
Have fun!

I have a prewrite about love in marriage which is an extended metaphor, and also a song lyric.
I could not write another as good as this in time for your contest. This one developed over a year's time.

Hi. Like Freed by Mercy (below), I have a poem I think you might find helpful re thoughts of separating/staying together. Do take a peek:http://allpoetry.com/poem/3340548. Meanwhile, don't let what happens to others (even your parents) make you think it applies to you. My wife Sue and I have a v. close relationship now after 40 years of marriage despite a really dreadful break up period half way through. Love CAN overcome. Good luck, mate - jimmy

I got a very nice comment from you on the poem i entered. I know these things are supposed to be anonymous so i guess i wont tell you which one i wrote. but I'm really glad you like it, and that you seemed to understand it's meaning perfectly.
