Poet's Choice III

UPDATE:

I'm working my way through

hang on, I'll get to you

Update II:

I'll be moving some poems

to the finalist list, for ease of judging

ENTER ...a prewrite.

BUT...one that has not won a trophy or has been entered over 3 times.

PLEASE...choose well.

DON'T...forget to edit.

USE...spell check.

THIS...is not for the impatient,

FOR...I will not be rushed in judging.

A...comment will be given on each poem.

DUMP...bad attitudes elsewhere, please.

I think I understand why many contests do not except  prewrites...they are drowned in a tsunami of poems that were entered just for the sake of entering.

Although I was well satisfied with the winning entries in my recent prewrite contest, it seemed to me that some of the others just dumped a poem on my doorstep.

Please scrutinize your poem before entering.  Edit, edit, edit.

Generally speaking, I will hold my comments until the contest is over a week from today.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on May 25, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 500, Bronze: 250, Honorable mention: 1 people
  • Final notes:
The finalists represented a wide variety of styles and voices. Some whose work I am familiar with, others I have read for the first time. Congratulations to you all.

The top three poems were those that drew me back time and again. Congratualtions.

I'm giving the poem Oh, Wishing Well an Honerable Mention It was written by a very special poet, XPandyxFangirlx, 11 years of age. I think she is well on her way to being an outstanding poet. Give this one a read, eh?

The other finalists are more or less in the order that appealed to me.

In a contest with this many entries, there were many poems that I thoroughly enjoyed that did not make the finalists list. There were a few I probably should have DQ'd. All in all this was a good experience.

Thanks again to those that entered and took the time to scrutinize and edit their work. To those who dumped poems in my lap with spelling errors and typos...please take more pride in your work.

Thank you so much for the recognition. I've been out of town for a few days and it was a lovely surprise to come back to find this!
