Ok, so my aunty only has a couple of weeks to live due to Ovarian cancer. I want a few poems to maybe be read at her funeral (for when it happens). I am also going to write one, but i just wanted to see what others came up with.
Ok, so i want something that is heart felt, emotional, rhythmic. But also something that shows anger, yet understanding that we can't always control everything in life, and that everything happens for a reason. I LOVE Seamus Heaney's poetry (just a hint to the style i would prefer). If not sure of his style, take a look at; Mid-Term Break, Glanmore Sonnets, Limbo etc.
Ok so now a bit about my aunty etc. Please use some of these points if possible.
She's 42.
I miss her, I'm over the other side of the world from all my family and can't even go back for the funeral (when it happens).
She only found out she had Ovarian Cancer 3 weeks ago.
Ovarian Cancer is known as the 'Silent Killer'.
She has a husband who loves her very much (my mum's brother), she has a 20 year old daughter and a 15 year old son. She also has a 1 year old granddaughter.
She lives in the south of England with her family (and the rest of my family, who are also in england (its just me, my rents and my bro who are in Oz))
She's been through a lot. She's epileptic (shes had many seizures) and had a small skin cancer growth which was removed a few years ago.
Her mum had Ovarian Cancer and died from it about 10 years ago.
We are all religious (catholic).
Right now my uncle is acting like normal, but we can tell what's underneath. We can tell he's just being brave. My cousin walks around in a daze. I don't think it's quite hit him yet.
So there it is. The contest will close on 3rd June, enter as many times as you want.
The Gold trophy will be awarded 800 points
The Silver trophy will be awarded 500 points
The Bronze trophy will be awarded 300 points
and there will be 2 honorable mentions (each given 30 points).
I will try to comment all entries, but i have exams coming up and with everything happening, i apologize if i don't get round to all of them!
-Please no pre-writes, i want something that is about my aunty and what we're all going through.
-Please no TyPIng LiKE tHis!
Please put effort, thought, time and heart into this contest. It means an awful lot to me, and is also my first contest
It's just a shame about the subject of it.
Good luck everyone xxx
UPDATE: My aunty died Wednesday evening. She was at home, with her husband and children at her bedside.
'Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.'
.Rest In Peace.
I have also written a poem about what we've been going through. It is on my page, and is called, 'Do Not Weep'. Please take a look and comment. Thanks.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on June 9, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 800, Silver: 500, Bronze: 300, Honorable mention: 2 people
- Final notes: Ok, so not as many entries as I would of liked, but every one of them were incredible and the majority moved me to tears! It was a hard contest to judge, but i'm happy with the overall decision. Those who didn't win anything, I loved all of your poems, it was just that there were a few I preferred. Thank you all for your time and effort.

I'm so sorry about your aunt. Ovarian cancer can be so cruel and so quick. I have put this in favorites so that I may come back to it and write something that will do justice to your obvious love for your aunt. Bless you and your family. Patricia

Thank you for the honorable mention. Most importantly, I hope these poems will help your aunt through this difficult times. She will know there are friends she didn't know about and that there are prayers going up in her honor. God bless, and congratulations to the winners. Patricia
